Take Windows out of Messenger 6

At the risk of appearing to be fixated with Messenger for Mac (what can I say - despite its quirks, I like it), I'll point to a neat tip at Mac OSX Hints that allows you to throw out that pesky Windows Live logo Microsoft has foisted upon us with its latest IM client update.

The solution is pretty simply and amounts to nothing more than renaming an image - but that leaves you with a blank block in the client. So some posters have come up with more interesting solutions that let you personalize the application window.

What are you going to put there, may I suggest the TUAW logo? Hit the comments and show us your ideas.

Like someone said... At least here in Europe, MSN is by far the most used IM network. Guess Adium will have to do the trick...

There is also quite a few instances of Windows Live and that really stupid windows logo in the Microsoft Messenger.rsrc file, and the English.lproj Localized.rsrc file. You'll need Resourcerer or ResEdit + QuickConvert or ThemePark to swap those images out.

It seems only in the small country of the USA that messenger is not widely used. Like it or not, messenger is one of the most popular IM apps on the planet.

Well, the "turn on what i'm listening to" feature on Adium does not work and the personal message too..as some other details that i can remember right now.

Also, i don't know why, but file transfers under the Adium are much slower than the MS client. They only need to add call/video support and that would be nice.

A guy must be very brave, fool or desperate to use something produced by M$. The problem with M$ is that they are commited to rule the world producing everything from software to horseshoes, including rocket engines, nuclear reactors and robotic bionic parts for dogs. Of course, every product ever made is a crap. If they just try to make windoze better before producing anything else....

"Who in the hell still uses Microsoft Messenger???"

I was shocked and appalled to learn when I moved to Canada for school that the most popular messaging client there is MSN by a landslide! Thank goodness for Gaim on my Linux Box and Adium on my girlfriend's Mac. No MS code here :-)

Who in the hell still uses Microsoft Messenger???

I have friends who live all over the world and the vast majority only use AIM. Yahoo probably comes in second with Skype following closely behind, especially overseas.

There would be a better way to do this if this was a cocoa program, but alas. Anyway, here is my pic. I used my website logo in the place of the windowz logo.

I'll stick with Adium, because it works like a bloody swiss clock ... but as with others here, I'll go with the others here and say an Apple logo :)

The last thing I want on my iBook is a windows logo ...
