Windows Vista RC2 doesn't work on Macs via Boot Camp?
It appears the just-released Windows Vista RC2 and the latest Boot Camp 1.1.1 don't play well for some reason. I just tried installing it to round up that Vista + Intel Mac post I've been working on, but the Vista installation process kept telling me it wasn't happy with the drive Boot Camp creates, and thus wouldn't touch it even after formatting. This is extra strange, as the RC1 installed and worked on Intel Macs just fine, and as far as I know, Boot Camp 1.1.1 has been updated for full compatibility with the latest Intel Core 2 Duo iMacs like the one I'm typing this on. What broke since RC1, how and whodunit (it was Ballmer in the meeting room with the office chair!) are a mystery to me, but what about you guys? Anyone else know what's going on?

I couldn't get it to install in Parallels either. Maybe I missed reading something.

Works flawlessly on the Macbook 2ghz, had to format the previous rc1 then restart the installation, but after that worked like a charm.
Can post a pic if wanted...

Strange, it's sounding like Boot Camp does something to the drive that the latest Vista doesn't like, but even more strangely: Vista can't fix it itself when formatting the drive from the installer.
Ugh, remind me why I'm doing this to myself? :)

Installed fine on my Core 2 iMac, sound card isn't working -- didn't work in RC1 either.

Judging by what's being said I would say that despite the updates, Vista will not work on Core 2 Duos, perhaps cause they're 64bit? Which build is breaking, 32bit or 64bit?

#6: That's just the thing, I downloaded the 64bit version of RC2.

Perhaps you should try installing the 32-bit x86 version instead. I have a feeling that that will work.

I actually just installed Vista RC2 on my Mac mini today and it worked great. Of course, not all the drivers from the Macintosh Driver CD installed, but the majority of them did.

In other words, it does work and there is no story.
Remind me why I come here again?!
(Joking.)

Went with Boot Camp instead of Parallels. Worked fine on a new fresh installation. Like #9 said, not all of the the Mac drivers from the CD work since they're for XP.

No problems here on my 20" iMac Core Duo.
Installs just as previous builds did.
One needs to install the bootcamp drivers to get sound, Device manager reports problems with built-in iSight, Performance Counters and "unknown device" wich seems to be the backlight

It is hanging for me after I put in (or don't) the product key. (In Parallels)

Slightly off-topic, but the download link for rc2 is hammered, anyone got a mirror?

Installed fine on my mac pro (as an upgrade, not a clean install). Still having issues with the video driver though.
Apparently "not enough resources" to start this device! Its a freakin Mac Pro for pitys sake, of course it has enough resources!

Kewl...
I even got the isight and the backlight dimmer working by doing the following:
copy the "Windows drivers for macintosh.exe" file to c: and renaming them to macdrivers.exe
Then start the file with the parameters /A /v (c:macdrivers.exe /A /v)
The installer wil start but prompts for a location to extract instead of installing, I extracted to c:macdrivers.
I manually installed the iSight by browsing for drivers for it through device manager.
Also copied the contents of th c:macdriverssystem32 folder to the c:windowssystem32 folder an placed a shortcut to c:windowssystem32brightness.exe in the startup folder in the start menu.
This only leaves the Bluetooth stack, the keyboard, startup disk tool, Apple Time sync not working...

Well...
I am very tempted to try this on my Macbook. Only problem is that If it gets screwed up...I'm screwed.
I have an external HDD to back everything up, but is there any chance it could fry the processor, ram, overheat...ext?
Also, how big should the partitan be for it, and how do I remove it when I am done?
Its a tough decision.
