TUAW Tip: Initiate Bluetooth File Exchange with a keyboard shortcut

TUAW-lover Andrew accidentally discovered that if you select a file in the Finder and press Apple + Shift + B (aka Command+Shift+B), it brings up the Bluetooth File Exchange application and prompts you for which device you want to send the selected file(s) to.

I love keyboard shortcuts and I know an awful lot of them but this is one that I either never knew or once knew but quickly forgot. Incredibly handy!

Thanks, Andrew!

How do I turn this off? Really annoying, CMD + SHIFT + B is Blockedit Selection in Coda, wish I could disable send file. Never use that anyways.

The link in my comment is to the download page for Nicholas Jitkoff's 'Service Manager' PreferencePane. It was really handy for turning off that annoying Cmd-Shift-B shortcut that would always launch Bluetooth File Sharing instead of bolding my text. Hope it helps.

I've been using this for years, i'm always making stupid movies and stuff for my phone and this is ideal for just quickly zapping things over.

It's also cool to show off the Mac too, it seems you have to go through hoops to send a file through BT on a PC, so when you show them that pressing a couple of keys does the trick on the Mac they love it.

Can we say SAWEET shortcut? I'm not much for'em, but this one I can actually use (and keep my BT icon hidden from the top taskbar now).

There are many keyboard shortcuts in applications, but what makes this one more ... important is that it's a Finder shortcut. And another practical use of this shortcut could be to send any PDF or .jpeg on your desktop to your bluetooth enabled printer! enjoy :-)
