Apple offers $20 iLife '06 discount to .Mac customers

In their true spirit of integration, Apple has finally decided to offer .Mac customers a small kickback on the purchase of iLife '06 (just in time for that iLife '07 sting to really get ya in January). In Apple Stores or online, the .Mac blog has announced a $20 discount (it's a mail-in rebate if you purchase from anywhere else) on the purchase of either a single or family pack of iLife '06, bringing their respective prices down to $59 and $79. Not a bad deal considering these two services are joined at the hips. You can also walk - no need to run - as they've left the discount/rebate open for (most of) the holiday shopping season - it ends December 13th.

I let my dotMac lapse the other day. I feel the same, only more money in my pocket. With all the free/no cost alternatives now, it just did not make sense this year.

What a crap deal. Is it just me or does .mac feel like it's worth even less with this insulting deal?

Ilife and iWork are $39 each at my nearest university tech shop, and you do not need to work there/be a student. Even apples edu store can't match that pricing. (OS X Tiger is $49 at this university.)

Turns out iLife '06 is $69 at Amazon, so Apple's not really doing much of a favor here.

Nobody should ever be paying the full $99 renewal fee for .mac anyway. Ever. It's $79 at Amazon.

And what's wrong with discounting a product if it is about to be replaced with a newer version (according to historical precedent). If I was a new mac user and I bought iLife 06 at the full retail price I'd be more bummed than had I paid $20 less. $20 more bummed in fact.

Guess it's a glass half full/half empty thing.

Yeah, I would rather have the $20 off the .mac fee. I think mine is up this month anyways. I'm still using the original iLife and run it under Panther. I'll be upgrading to iLife 07 though when 10.5 comes out...

Gee, $20 off of software that Apple is going to completely replace in three months. Wow, what a bargain.

What do you mean : (just in time for that iLife '07 sting to really get ya in January)
There isn't an upgrade path from the old to the new iLife is there? so you get V6 for a $20 discount because it is almost time for V7 which will cost the full price whether or not you own V6 because it is released after dec 13th.
