Introducing Nike+ Group Goals: donate your miles, run for a cause

Boy, this Nike+ thing just keeps getting cooler and cooler. I just received an email from Nike introducing a new Nike+ Group Goals program through which Nike will donate $1 to a cause for every mile participants run (using the Nike+iPod kit, of course). It appears that causes will rotate periodically, as this month they're featuring three: the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, as well as Cubs and White Sox charities.

This is a stellar idea, and call me what you have to, but I'm genuinely inspired to finish this post and lace up my shoes; this is such a great way to get people even more motivated. I'm excited to see what other charities and groups hop on board with one of the most arguably unique and active iPod accessories to date.

This is great, just annoying that some of us still can't use Nike+!

Greetings from Denmark!

There was recently a LAF charity run/bike ride in Austin, and there was a Nike+ truck there with demo units that you could actually run with. I wonder if they were doing that there?

On a different note, when the announcer was telling people to go to the different stalls they had at the after party, it was annoying because he kept on saying "nike +, tune UP your run." He must have made this mistake at least 3 times.

How about they donate 1$ to their workers for every mile? Or have they ditched harsh child labor?

I was wondering I don't actually have the sport kit but if the different groups were all competing, couldn't they just shake the reciever thing, and get many many miles?? Or is that not how it works??

This has actually been going on for a few weeks as you can see by all the miles already added to these group goals. One cool thing is you can join as many of these as you want so all your miles get added to all these different goals. You don't have to decide which charity you want to donate your miles to.

But the absolute best part is when the groups are competing with each other! The Chicago goal has the Northside battling the Southside, and with the Lance Armstrong Foundation goal there is a 5 boro challenge pitting each of the five boroughs of New York against each other. Of course Manhattan is winning by far, and my boro, Queens is in last! Gotta get running and get passed 4th place Staten Island!!
