Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard build 9A283 seeded to ADC members

Mac Rumors is reporting that Apple has seeded a new build of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard (build 9A283, for those keeping track) to Select and Premiere ADC members, the first major seed since preview versions were given to the devs at WWDC 2006 in August. Interestingly, this build is meant to be a fresh install - not simply an upgrade over the previous version. Mac Rumors also has a roundup of at least some of the major changes from the WWDC build:
  • new Parental Controls preference pane for content filtering, apps, and curfews
  • Significant user interface changes to iCal
  • 3D audio cues to indicate locations of items on the screen in the VoiceOver screen reader
  • Basic editing in Preview
I can't help but hope one of those 'significant' UI changes to iCal includes a new 'unified' look to bring it more in line with their move away from the ill-fated brushed metal.

I don't always know if I'm fond of some of the excessive footer gradients, but I really like the iTunes 7 look. The soft buttons and subtle metal makes for a mature look - it doesn't look 100% complete, but again, I hope one look gets unified throughout the system.

They're probably waiting until macworld to show us these "hidden" features. I really hope it doesn't come out like itunes 7; not only was it ugly, but it was VERY buggy, not to mention slow.

You know, now that Microsoft has released the Release Client 2 of Windows Vista and is set for a november debut of the definitive version... Isn't it time Apple showed us those slides they've kept secret?

Microsoft won't be able to copy a whole lot at this stage.

I must be the total opposite of #3. I can't stand not having a rainbow of colour around me, which I guess is why I like not having a unified interface.

Yea, iTunes 7 is a worry – looks like a quick rework from a summer intern. Pretty disappointing design effort from Apple, a couple of nice additions but a lot of marketing hype also – I just hope it's not a sign of things to come... Come on Apple, make us a more consistent environment to work (and develop) with, don't drift into M$ 'too many cooks', and 'we can't make up our mind so we'll give the user a bunch of half baked designs', land.

I hope they're shifting the whole OS to look more like iTunes 7 and away from the eye-candy, Fisher-Price look. iTunes 7 is is a great, neutral theme...you want flashy colors and lights you can get a colorful desktop wallpaper or something, but the operating system should not be something that draws your attention.

I agree big time with #2, now just to wait until some developer spills the beans.

Any look's fine with me, so long as it doesn't look like iTunes 7.

Anyone have screen shots of any of these updates?
