Rumor: Apple might support both Blu-ray and HD-DVD in Leopard
In another move by a major player to negate this ridiculous next-gen DVD format war, Think Secret is reporting they have evidence that Apple might very well support both Blu-ray and HD-DVD with their upcoming Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard release. This is an interesting (and wholly welcomed) move from Apple in part because they're on the board of the Blu-ray Disc Association, while others like Microsoft, Toshiba and (strangely) Intel are camping out on the HD-DVD side of the fence. It would be great to see this rumor come true, as the last thing users need is another headache-inducing, hardware-stratifying format war to both up their daily computing.

I always assumed Blu-ray was given. I guess Apple would be foolish not to hedge their bets and support HD-DVD.

Why is this to Apple's benefit?
Because Apple has it's own competing format.
Apple wants the next format that consumers choose to be none other than iTunes digital downloads.
And Yes! It will be HD resolution. (eventually)
I hope they will support both.

IMO, Apple might support both formats in s/w but they will not include dual-format HD drive. If they do include HD (not hard disk but high-definition) optical drive, it will likely be Blue-ray until the whole thing sorts itself out.
What a great non-story. *Rumors* say Apple *might* support a *new technology*?! Get outta town! REALLY?! That's nuts!! Thanks for the update, Nostradamus.

They want the folks making Blu-Ray and HD-DVD discs to use Macs - and Final Cut, and DVD Studio, etc. I wouldn't be surprised to see a new version of DVD Studio that supports both formats in the near future.
