Modern Flying Toasters
The two screensavers that I remember most are Star Field and Flying Toasters. Star Field isn't all that whimsical, but luckily Flying Toasters more than makes up for that. Now, your modern Mac can sport flying toasters and toast thanks to Uneasy Silence. This Quartz Composer screensaver is pretty slick, and best of all it is free. Everybody wins!

OMG! I remember paying 30$ for those flying toasters back in like 96.

Screensavers are fun but the best way to save your screen is to simply turn it off.

fun fact that may interest only me: the flying toaster devs took their profits from that and started moveon.org

After Dark came out with a Twisted edition that was hilarious. Mime Hunt, Voyeur, Bungee Cows... man. I'd watch those things for hours.

If I knew that I would never had bought it.

Wow, if I'd known what moveon.org would reap I'd not have bought the toasters either.
Actually it was a few of the other screen savers on that disk I liked back. Wasn't there one of a kid jumping and bouncing through an art gallery?

Don't forget the Star Trek edition either. I used to run the alien brain cells one (you know, those flying pancake-like things from the episode "Operation: Annihilate"). I love the squishy noises they made.

The mime hunt was so... twisted! My favorites, though, were the trippy modules like Satori and Nirvana. Good times.

There are a few really cool screen savers that I want to use, but my friends really enjoy the iTunes album artwork one. If I change it they get mad, so I'm stuck with that I guess.

My favorite was the "Lunatic Fringe" space game, lol. I guess I was in the first grade at the time, if you add up all the hours I played that it would probably equal an entire year of my life... I wish I could find a port for OS X...

Oh man the memories! I was actually looking for a clone a few months ago but didn't find anything worthwhile. This is great!

Oh, man, Lunatic Fringe... I LOVED that game. IIRC it was done by the same guy who did another favorite game of mine, Solarian II. Ben Heller - was that his name?
I especially loved the sounds that he used in his games, both Solarian and Fringe.
Unfortunately my copy of After Dark (including Lunatic Fringe) is long lost. But I still have a copy of Solarian II on one of my disks somewhere. Now if only I could get a decent Mac emulator going on my MacBook Pro...

I remember using After Dark on an early build of Mac OS X to use After Dark (and play Lunatic Fringe)! I still have the floppies at home - just no floppy drive any more! It was an awesome game - someone should port it!

What's wrong with moveon.org? I was under the impression that Mac users were fairly liberal. Al Gore uses a Mac in his "Inconvenient Truth" don't he?

PLEASE do not lump all Mac users with the LEFT.
Thank god there are many of us not on the left.
You'll see someday that following those Socialists was the downfall of America.
