iLounge reviews the i.Dream i-Classic Digital Audio System

I hereby declare today "iPod Sound System Saturday."

Not sure why, but I've got iPod speakers and sound systems on the brain today. I was catching up on iLounge and noticed their "first-look" of the i.Dream America i-Classic Digital Audio System. The pictures pulled me in. It just looks plain cool. Based on the description I'm betting it sounds good, too. iLounge notes that he inconsistently i-/i.named i.Dream i-Classic consists of a large amp, LCD AM/FM alarm clock radio base, four faux vacuum tubes, two removable cube speakers, integrated iPod dock and a 10-button remote control. It's $140 and has dock adapters to accommodate all dock-compatible iPods. Check out iLounge for lots more pictures. If anyone has one of these I'd love to hear what you think about it!

"Laurie's got vacuum tubes for brains?"

And what's wrong with that?? Just makes her a warmer person...maybe a hotter thinker.

And just for the record - my system revolves around an HH Scott 299C integrated amplifier. Also have access to a Fisher 500B receiver.

Also, for those of you who think the iPod (m4a formatted music) doesn't sound as good as CDs, you need to compare the two on a properly set up, true, stereo system. To me, there no comparison.

But then, I've always been a nut!

"...Sorry, I'm as passionate about tube audio as I am about Macs!..."

Same here, although tube gear is pricy so I've only got one, a dynaco ST-70 that I put together my self. oh do I love it! (have a PAS-3 as well)

Fake tubes are just silly, I give that piece a big fat thumbs down.

" For about double the money you can get a real tube system from Gini.

ick, solid state output stage - almost as pointless as having faux tubes.

I think there is another inexpensive tube system for iPod available but I can't find it now.

atrocious is a spot-on assessment. fake tubes? wow. it's the stylistic equivalent of those giant fake plastic spoilers people put on the backs of crappy hondas. it just screams no class.

Looks neat to me. I'll buy one after Christmas. I wish companies made more tech like this.

Ew, too. At first I thought the tubes might be more than consmetic, and was intrigued. As an affectation they are attrocious, and even block the speakers -WTF?. Bad design.

Thank god those tubes are fake; if they were real and glowing that hot, they'd melt down in no time!

Besides that, why settle for faux tubes when you can enjoy the real ones with any audio device? :)
