iPod shuffle Reset Utility 1.0 for Mac
Many first gen iPod shuffle users are are seeing their precious shuffles enter into a sort of fugue state: endlessly cycling between a sad green light and a sad orange light. Today, Apple has posted a small utility that promises to raise your shuffle from the dead. What is this marvel called? iPod shuffle Reset Utility 1.0 for Mac (PC version also available). This little utility restores your shuffle's software to software version 1.1.4, and erases all the music on the shuffle. Apple warns that your shuffle might need to be reset thrice (!) before it takes. Lots more details about the utility can be found here.
Thanks, Mark.

Wow, it brought my Shuffle back to life on the first try. I had thrown it in a drawer months ago and given it up as dead after trying everything recommended by Apple's Support site. Nice!

I just submitted yesterday a support ticket to Apple for this issue, and they're sending me a replacement, when they very well might not have to. Hey, it worked, although I ended up having to reinstall iTunes before it recognized either the Shuffle or the 4G 20gig.

awesome! i brought my shuffle to the genius bar last month and they couldn't help me at all since it was completely dead in their eyes and because it was purchased more than a year ago. they told me i could use it as a 10% discount on my purchase of a new ipod. now it works again! thanks for the tip!

Unbelievable!! Thanks! I spent about 6 hours last week downloading various windows Fdisk utils, OS X disk utils and basically anything I could think of that might get the drive to be recognizable as a disk again. Called Applecare and they told me the same as "presodent" ... use it to buy a new one.
Ya!! I have my shuffle back! Still the best sounding iPod ever.

I work in an Apple Centre in Australia, and we'd gotten to the extent of booking in any iPod shuffle that came in the door, just because iTunes did nothing. Thanks for the post.

Finally, I had to return 3 shuffles because of that problem.. maybe this will fix the next one that inevitably takes a dive.
