Apple's Insomnia Film Festival

Apple has just announced their first ever Insomnia Film Festival, open to all student filmmakers over 18 years of age. The concept is simple, you have one day to script, film, and edit a 3 minute (or less) short film that incorporated three elements that Apple will post on November 10th at 5pm. You will then have 24 hours to complete your film and submit it, though the films must be made on Mac and submitted in Quicktime.
Only the first 500 teams to register can participate, though each team can have up to 5 members. Full contest guidelines canbe found here, and Apple has also posted the judging criteria which will be used by judges like Matthew Modine, Jon Shenk, and Rebecca Stockley.
Each member of the winning team gets Final Cut Studio, a copy of Shake, and an 80GB video iPod for their portable portfolio.

This is another case of Apple ripping off others' ideas.
Visit www.24x7makingmovies.com the cutting edge Indian program which invites ANYONE below the age of 24 to make a film in 24hours.
In fact Apple is one of the partners in this and they gave the winner a 20inch dual core iMac as the winning prize on October 30th, 2006!!
C'mon Apple!
Can you mail in a clip about generations of Apple computers which show signs of insomnia? ;)

*sulks*
Ah well, plenty of other similar things around I guess, and I already have a full commercial copy of final cut studio, so the prize isnt that useful to me.
How do they know if you made it on an Apple? I can just have my mom make an account on her's (she lives in AZ) and wham-o, bypassed that on my way to all the prizes.
And I like this rule the best: "The video should target an English-speaking audience"
Hell yes English-only. Anything else is ugly, and we all know Apple doesn't make/like ugly things.
I've been participating in these film contests for about 5 years -- the 48 Hour Film Project. It's become so successful that copycats are showing up everywhere, but I'm surprised to see Apple ripping off the idea as a marketing tool.
