Aperture 30 day test drive
I'm not a very good photographer, but I take lots of digital pictures which is why I was interested in checking out Aperture, but I didn't want to plunk down $299. Apple has heard my silent pleas and made a 30 day 'test drive' available for all to download. It is available in English, French, German, or Japanese. All features are enabled for 30 days, but the trial does not include the sample images that are available retail version.
At the moment the trial page isn't working for me, but I am sure Apple's trained web professionals will get that all sorted out.
Thanks, Rob.
Update: I was right, they fixed the page quickly. Download away.

Aperture is $299 not $199.

I've been very interested in using Aperture, I only wish that the cost of entry wasn't so prohibitive (as much of a good deal as it is).
The 30 day trial might entice me enough though, thanks for the tip. I wish I knew about this during particular halloween photoshoot http://flickr.com/photos/midweekpost/sets/72157594351259773/

129mb for the update? did they just start over with 1.5? correct me if im mistaken but this update is as big as the 1.5 update, and has a weighty list of fixes, the crop issue was really bugging me, so glad theyve fixed it

I don't want apple email...the page makes you get apple news before you download. Ug.

If you happen to have acquired a valid Aperture (however that might be) and put it in for this free trial, it appears that it makes it a valid version of Aperture.

@5: You can opt out of the Apple news if you just uncheck the box.

if you uncheck the box, then the page will tell you that you need to check the box for Apple to send you the trial serial number, which is pretty dumb

How big is the trial app download? Over 1 Gb?

Why does it keep telling me my serial is invalid? It's a straight copy-paste from the email Apple sent me!

Make sure you don't install 1.5.1 with the trial version! It makes it so that you need a valid license that you have purchased. In fine print off to the right on the Aperture Trial page it warns you that it's not eligible for the 1.5.1 update. If you're getting an invalid serial warning, you've probably updated the trial version to 1.5.1.

How can I run it on my PowerBook 12 inch?
I've pulled out the Aperture.app from the package file but I can't figure out the next step. Has anyone succeeded?

From the page where you download aperature
Important Note
If you download the free Aperture Trial, please note that the software cannot be updated to Aperture 1.5.1. The Aperture 1.5.1 Update will update ONLY fully licensed copies of Aperture.
Also from the same page
Take Aperture 1.5 for a Free Test Drive
Now you can enjoy a free 30-day trial of Aperture 1.5
That should cover the questions from the top of the thread I hope?
