This is what 200 iPod shuffles looks like

Email from a colleague today, regarding the new iPod shuffles:
"(name removed) bought 200 (shuffles) at 5th ave store today, they had to scan the UPCs individually. Longest register receipt I've ever seen."
My reply? "Scan the receipt!" He went one better...

That's a sh*t load of shuffles. I'm just glad I'm not the one who has to load them all!
Thanks, M!

Wow! I hope they got some sort of discount. I'd have thought they could have ordered direct over the phone and got a wholesale price on this lot?

Note to self: Do not buy Shuffle at 5th Ave. store. They're probably out.

Umm... Why didn't you go to Apple corporate sales and get the quantity discount?

Availability. Most likely, with a brand-new product, Apple's volume sales team could not guarantee delivery in a timely fashion.

Wow thats a lot of shuffles. I bought 100 video iPods from my local apple store for my business last year. They had a business manager and he gave me a discount on my bulk iPod purchase.

But that's only 200...
When you consider how many iPods are going to be sold this Christmas - at least 7 million or so - the combined receipts would stretch to the moon.
I suppose to be fair, the combined Zune receipts will stretch outside the Redmond parking lot!
(Just been exploring Zune.net. Sure is a janky looking player. Too big and misproportioned. Some of those oh-so-hip girls' hands make it look the size of a housebrick.)

Th shuffle is the sweetest thing and the size you could spend all your time looking at it. As for the packaging, it's a design classic, I love it. What next for the shuffle under the skin impant perhaps?

Why would they have to scan the UPC for everyone? It would be the same UPC on every item. No wonder stores like this have big queues, stupidity.

I imagine it's not so much the UPC (same for each), but the fact that apple scans the bar code representing the serial number of each iPod purchased...

It is not to scan the UPC, but to scan the Serial numbers.

They scan the individual units for the serial number. However, the outside of the box has a bar code with every units serial number on it. So the clerk is stoopid.

The clerk did the right thing scanning each unit, because sometime what is on the outside box does not match what is inside the box.

If one breaks, do you have to bring the reciept in?

Apple does not typically provide any discounts on iPods. They don't have to!

YAY! Just picked mine up last night. My first shuffle! I've got a black 80GB Video and a Black 1G 4GB nano. I never thought I'd like a shuffle, but this thing is pretty snazzy if I must say so myself. I know I'll lose it one day this week and flip out.(But thats what the $79 price tag is for right??)... oh, by the way, if you ever want to buy an iPod, go to Deleware.(I was there on a family trip)... no sales tax on some of the bigger iPods saves some money!!!
