Rumsfeld resignation captioned well by Mac OS X
While TUAW certainly isn't a political blog (though there is an easy argument to be made that politics and technology are fatefully intertwined), you might have heard Donald Rumsfeld, secretary of defense, is stepping down. While I don't want to incite the ever-prevalent political arguments of mass destruction, I thought the use of Mac OS X to summarize today's announcement was clever enough to warrant a chuckle. Like Mr. Gruber, I'd rather not spoil any of the joke, which is why I didn't snag the picture for this post. You'll just have to check it out for yourself.

The joke would be funny if Rumsfeld hadn't been trying to resign for years.

Yeah, is that not terrible how politicians like Mr. Rumsfeld have people holding guns to their heads all the time, forcing them to stay in office and not resign?

The only downside to this is that my Windows-using workmates won't get it.

Thanks for the stale joke. You've started a political argument. Whether you think it's funny or not is completely beside the point. Politics is not why I come here. And I'm sure there are many others who don't either.
And yes, I'm very politically motivated. Exactly why I don't go to political websites.
Thank You.

I don't care about your idiotic political views. I don't come to TUAW for this.

Has nothing to do with being a Republican or not. Just has to do with making a comment on a topic that a lot of people are touchy about in a forum where it's not appropriate. In high school I had a teacher that joked that he would add "operating systems" to the list of things that shouldn't be discussed among friends that already included religion and politics (bad sentence, sorry). Anyway, I come here to discuss one of those, but certainly not the other two.

Who the hell cares what you come here for? The blog is set up so that you can *skip* what you don't want to read. Whiners.

What a bunch of whiny mother@#%&!s you people are. You brought it on yourself by clicking the link David Chartier provided. He didn't post the picture for a reason.
If you don't want to see something that might provoke a response and upset your perceived higher-minded values, don't click!
And get a life!

By the way, I'm not a Republican. I'm a Libertarian, and I'm complaining about the direction of TUAW, not a Apple-related article I don't like. Of course I don't have to come here and read what's written, but I like to read a good Apple blog. That's exactly what TUAW is, and I'd wish it stayed like that.
Conversely, someone can use any argument similar to "If you don't like it, don't read it" to retort my comment above. Follow your own advice if you think it's so great.
Again, I can't be clearer, I don't think anyone wants TUAW to become the next Moveon.org. We already have one of those.

I love how these idiots are complaining that it's a political post, when it was made very clear that it is not. Chill out douchebags, it's just a funny picture that ties in well with Macs. Lighten the hell up.

Nice, however it's incredibly inaccurate.
Rummy has offered his resignation a total of 4 times and King George has refused it each time. This was more of a "Force Accept". But hey, lets not let messy things like Facts get in the way. ;-)

This is the same argument I've been making about John Gruber's Daring Fireball - now that he's the darling star of the Mac Web he's chosen to start making political statements every couple of days. Each day this week he has changed his byline from "D Pennsylvania" to "Sweet Virginia" from the usual "Mac Nerdery etc" He also regularly takes witty potshots at Republicans as if to say all those that are Republican are sub par thinkers.
This was a big reason there was a mass exodus from Slashdot ... if TUAW, Engadget, and Gruber aren't careful they will start to slide in readership as well.
Slashdot has gone from "News for nerds" to "Forums for Osama" in my opinion. I hope that doesn't happen here.
