Fly the friendlier sky with your iPod

Apple has teamed up with a handful (if you have a 6-fingered hand) of airlines to offer iPod integration, making your long flight a bit more comfortable. Air France, Continental, Delta, Emirates, KLM and United will deliver the first "seamless integration" between the iPod and their own in-flight entertainment systems. These airlines will provide passengers iPod seat connections that will power and charge your iPods in-flight and allow your video content to be viewed on the seat back displays!

"There is no better traveling companion than an iPod, and now travelers can power their iPods during flight and even watch their iPod movies and TV shows on their seat back displays," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of Worldwide iPod Product Marketing. "We're excited to work with Air France, Continental, Delta, Emirates, KLM and United to offer iPod users an even better in-flight experience."

The in-flight iPod perks will be available starting in mid-2007 and Apple is working with Panasonic Avionics Corporation to bring even more airlines in-flight iPod connectivity in the future.

I hope JetBlue is next in line. I bet Steve Jobs' Gulfstream already has this feature. Thanks for sharing, Steve!

Thanks to all who sent this in!

Well, it will probably be for business class only, just like the laptop charging.

Please tell me you can correct the glaring typo in the article title. ^_^; It's "skies"!

OMG, MC, you're right! I've always confused JetBlue and Song. Sorry for the mix up (and thanks for the correction).

Re: #1, I don't know what you're talking about. JetBlue is not a subsidiary of anyone, and they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. They are independent and have had a good amount of profitable quarters with strong revenues.

Also, even if Delta did "absorb" (buy?) JetBlue, the JetBlue fleet is minuscule compared to Delta's feet. It would require Delta to make a significant investment to outfit the rest of its planes with the video/DirecTV units. Delta is bankrupt - that wouldn't be happening anytime soon.

Re: JetBlue

You are thinking of Song, which is part of Delta.

#1 "Jet Blue is about to go away. It will simply be absorbed by parent company Delta"

JetBlue [JBLU] is a publicly traded company and Delta is not a major shareholder.
They could try a hostile take-over as I'm sure JetBlue is not interested in being acquired by Delta.

Perhaps your sister should try sleeping at a Holiday Inn.
I suspect you really got this hot tip from a SPAM email.

" It will simply be absorbed by parent company Delta, and all Delta planes will be equipped w/the Jet Blue in-seat TV's, etc."

Delta is not Jet Blue's parent company. Delta has tried to set up its own low-cost branches to compete against JetBlue. JetBlue is independent, like Southwest.

KLM / Air France are denying it! According to KLM chances are slim that it will happen.
