Apple posts new iPod shuffle ad

Apple premiered a new iPod shuffle ad today (I saw it while watching Heroes). There are no dancers in sight, in fact all you see are torsos putting on different pieces of clothes and attaching an iPod shuffle to them. All of this whilst Who's Gonna Sing? by The Prototypes is playing in the background. The ad ends with the slogan, 'Put some music on.' Oh, so clever Apple!

Just a small, tiny, nitpick. The group's name is just "Prototypes" (no "the"). Great ad.

Very cool ad. :)

By the way, you spelled "their" in the wrong way. It should be "there".

Great ad. I love to see people's creativity. The zune is so screwed :)

Heros was also the first time I saw the zune ad on TV (I saw the one in the first ad break, maybe there were more)... If you didn't know what it was, you'd be no more informed from the ad. The product is in shot for about 3 seconds and even then it's not clear that that is the point of the ad - it could just be something incidental. To me it looked like an ad for the band that was featured, but even then there was no mention of something to buy.
Apple can do that now with the iPod because it's become the generic name for an MP3 player (although their ads still feature the product and music through headphones). Zune needs to establish what it is first before it can go into the minimalist thing with the ads.

Not to beat a dead horse, but the ad is the absolute opposite of the Zune ads. And further proof of Apple's marketing ability.

it looks cool to wear your ipod on show but I'd be worried about someone snatching it

Wow, you're posting a comment on an apple blog, congratulations.

The ad is interesting, very trippy with the transitions and not as in your face crazy music kinda of way as some of the other ads. Apple seems to be targeting more casual listeners (which is evident in the price point anyway) and they are really trying to show off how versatile the shuffle really is.

It seems that all the models in those scenes were clipping it to their upper body though....
