Mike Rose: So nice to be here...
Hi there, TUAW readers; I'm thrilled to be the newest blogger in this well-appointed stable. Over the past 15 years I've been a systems integrator, IT manager, writer, editor and online producer and through it all I never quite escaped the unofficial title of "the Mac guy" -- so clearly I wasn't trying very hard. While this is my second go-round at an AOL subsidiary (I worked on the original Entertainment Weekly launch on the service), it's my first chance to write about my love of all things Mac, and I can't wait to get rolling. I'm looking forward to lots of wonderful feedback!

yeah Bryan AOL bought out Weblogs, Inc. not too long ago. I believe that Jason McCabe Calacanis has since left.

Uh, sarcasm? Not familiar with the term, could you define?
:-)
And did I say AOL? I meant Apple. Yeah, we're the unofficial Apple weblog. That's the ticket!

A sense of humor (humour) is a definite plus :). That is "feedback," right?!?

I like this guy so far. Just please don't do any helpful tips posts that 90% of the people out there already know when its a slow day and you'll stay on my good side. (woo, long sentence)
Umm, yeah. Welcome!

first time poster, but... if you post anything speculating an iPhone and there is no iPhone shipping to my home, I will hunt you down and kill you.
No, I'm not joking... I will dedicate my life to stuffing dead Gen 1 iPods into places you didn't think they could fit.

OK, no tips that 90% of everyone already knows about... is that a hard threshold? Or if I'm at, like, 85%, do I need to start calling around first to see if it's common knowledge?
No iPhone speculation that doesn't result in an actual iPhone shipping directly to Mr. Bennett lest he attempt to use me as a Gen 1 iPod case.
Uh, OK.
May I suggest "Pure Moods" as a first purchase from the iTMS? Or anything by Shadowfax. Very relaxing. Or maybe just switching to decaf.
I think I got it.
This is gonna be cake.

Welcome, Mike.
TUAW is really growing, in the last few months, we have gotten three new people.
I like it when the authors actually red the comments and respond, so far it seems like you are doing a good job.

This is a legitimate item to blog about, whether or not it turns out to be true. Anyone who's watched the Diggnation video can see that at least Rose believes there is reality behind his leak.
By the way, think it's never okay to threaten violence. I assume comment #8 was for laughs, but guess what? It's actually not funny. It's just degrading to everyone involved.
Personally, would report the guy, just to be on the safe side. Most big Internet companies (like AOL) have compliance teams that work with law enforcement to identify people engaged in hate speech, who threaten violence, sexual or child abuse, etc. Check in with the legal group at AOL, and they'll point you in the right direction. To my eye, that post crossed the line.

Ron, thanks for your support. I'm not concerned about Michael B. (although I should not have encouraged his antics by namechecking his comment in my recent iPhone post). He thinks he's being funny by being a bully. He's in college, he'll learn soon enough (I hope).
I'd like to think that anyone with enough smarts to use the InterWeb would be clever enough not to actually threaten someone very publicly while having their name, e-mail and IP address logged.
By the way, for an excellent primer on how to judge real threats vs. imaginary ones, read Gavin de Becker's book "The Gift of Fear."

Oops, sorry for the double post.
Glad to hear it's all harmless!
Will check out the book. I've heard about it, and even indirectly referenced it the other day, oddly enough.
Anyway, onward and upward...
Ron
