BlackBerry Folk Rejoice: PocketMac Available from RIM
We told you ages ago that RIM was planning to acquire and then release PocketMac for syncing your Crackberry and your Mac, but somehow we missed the actual release (back in October). Anyway, PocketMac 4.0 is now happily available for download from RIM. Go forth you mobile, email addicted, thumbsore Mac users and rejoice.

Pocketmac sucked when pocketmac had it, it sucks still now that RIM has it. There is a class action lawsuit against RIM because Pocketmac DOES NOT WORK.

PM works okay, but it's too bad the BB sucks so bad.
Who in his right mind thought it'd be a great idea to put the disconnect button where you hold or lift the phone? I've lost dozens of calls that way.
Unfortunately, w/ Verizon, my two choices for isync were this POS and a Palm, which blew even bigger chunks. Now I'm saddled w/ a craptacular phone for two years.

Well I, for one, am happy with both my BlackBerry Pearl AND Pocketmac syncing on my mac. My results have been fine and the small glitches I'm seen are minor compared to the convenience of having my contacts (syncing with Mac Addressbook), calendar (syncing with iCal) and email (retrieving both my .mac mail and my gmail) at my fingertips.
Why all the anger here? I'm thrilled with my BlackBerry!

couple of things.
pocketmac for blackberry 4.0 was released on october 4th, over two months ago. not exactly breaking news.
nor is it news that this version sucks.

i own a blackberry 8700c and it will only sync properly once per mac startup. i'm glad RIM bought the software and that it's being developed, but it is SO not there yet. hopefully soon though!

I use it and it works. However ....
1. Pocketmac says its a Universal application. Yeah... the installer is Universal. The actual application is PowerPC
2. Still can't use the Blackberry as a tethered broadband evdo modem (verizon)

I switched from a Treo to a Blackberry a couple months ago, and while the phone itself is WAY better and a hell of a lot more durable, I'm sorely missing the Missing Sync software. Fortunately, Mark/Space looks like they're thinking about developing a Blackberry solution.
Can't happen soon enough. Pocketmac won't transfer my email addresses (although at least it transfers my phone numbers right, apparently some people can't even get it to do that). To not have email addresses on an email device is just stupid.

PM 4.0 does not work with our 8100's at all. Scrambled data during first synch and displays error messages even after removal and new install.
My advice is save your time and frustration by not trying to use PM 4.0 with the 8100. If you want the challenge, make sure that you back up your Contacts and AddressBook so you don't loose your data.
Many users problems documented at Blackberryforums.com in the Mac section. PM not being supported by RIM or PocketMac, the developer. Very dissapointing as the previous version 3.6 worked well with our 7100s. The Pearl is a great phone but NO mac sync.

I must Agree with everyone else. I have spent hours with this 8703, After my 10th try I finally got my bookmarks sync'ed My Addressbook is always screwed up everytime i sync. I am still angry that my mac will not see my blackberry via bluetooth. Plus the pearl has software that will allow it to be used as a modem via the mac. I keep hearing about a class action law suit. Can someone post the link where I can complain as well. I love how I am on a two year sprint contact and my local sprint rep said it was mac compatible. Pockmac is free now, but the cht doesnt work right. I was at macworld monday no where did I see a RIM booth. I would be hidding from 50,000 angry RIM fans. If anyone can direct me to this lawsuit page it would be great.

I love how a large company like RIm beta test a application on a single powerpc and then tells the world it works with Mac. Try a intel mac pro or a Macbook pro or a GD imac. How RIM's stock is souring. Maybe I should write a article for macworld or maclife, or mac addict.
