Widget Watch: Apple][Go

My grammar school memories are filled with many happy hours spent in the computer lab staring at a green monochromatic Apple ][e with dual floppy drives. I can't tell you how many times I died of dysentery, or where the heck Carmen Sandiego was but I had a great time. Now, my misspent youth is only a keystroke away, waiting in the Dashboard. Apple][Go puts the power of an Apple ][ onto your modern day Mac.

Now, the needed ROMs and disk images are not public domain, so make sure you have the proper rights to use them and then meet me in 1985.

Hi, I'm the author of AppleIIGo. I'm really overwhelmed by the positive response, it's great to hear about your stories.

About the Oregon Trail problem, try posting more detailes on the AppleIIGo forum, like what system you are on and what steps you took to run it.

Btw, if somebody knows about some other place to post about AppleIIGo, let me know. Thnx!

No problem. You just need to take the floppy disk out and turn it over before comtinuing.

Woo, nostalgia. I so remember playing Oregon Trail and all those other A2 games. I also remember something funny about Karateka; back then you could use both sides of a floppy disk, so alot of people cut a write-protect notch on the other side of the floppy disk and could use both sides by 'flipping' it. Well it turns out that if you try booting from the flipside of the original Karateka disk, you would play the game.. UPSIDE DOWN. So your character would be stuck to the "ceiling", and when an enemy died, instead of falling to the floor, they sort of stuck themselves to the ceiling...

Trying to remember the name of two graphical adventure style games I played long ago. One of them started out with you having to parachute out of a plane, and then had you in a hospital where a nurse tries to kill you; I remember it featured people (or something) named MELTON and NOTLEM. Another game I remember was set on kind of a spooky island where you had a vampire and a werewolf running around, and you had to find a gun with a silver bullet to kill the werewolf. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Finally, a reason to use the Dashboard. Of course, there are several great A2 emulators out there, but there's always room for more.

I must be a real idiot. I can get the Oregon Trail disk to load, but it just shows the title screen (like the screenshot in this post) and I can't get past there. I also tried the pinball disk it comes with, and the only control I could get working was the left flipper (mouse click). How are you guys getting this thing working?

Much too good!
This is my story exactly. Thanks for brining back Grade 4 :-) Now if they only had an emulation of the ImageWriter.

I think with the new abandonware law. The ROMS should be legally distributed. Because Apple no longer makes or sells Apple II's.
