Flickr Find: Griffin Elevator
The Griffin Elevator, which replaces and updates Griffin's iCurve, is now shipping. It's a desktop stand for laptop computers. Retailing at $40, it's just now hitting the shelves. TUAW reader Ray sends along this link to his Flickr collection of unpacking pictures. I'm surprised by how well the final product ended up looking. I thought it would be a lot less elegant given how the redesign got rid of the originals' curves, but it's really quite attractive.

Imagine my relief to read on their site that it's compatible with OS X 10.3, 10.4, and XP.
Sorry, Jaguar.

You can accomplish the same thing with about 7 books stacked up. That's how I do it. Wireless Apple Keyboard, mouse.
Anyway, it's very important to use correct posture when using a laptop on a desk. I experienced moderate neck & upper back pain without the books, so if you don't care about money, this thing looks good, allows for space below for more desk real estate. I'd buy it.
Just fyi.

bought it 2 weeks ago and just have to say that the stand is way better than the icurve, much more sturdy and durable. it dissipates the heat just a tad better due to the thin aluminum base, but hey, the best thing about it is its actually portable. i don't need a box to put it in like the icurve, just take it apart, and it fits in any bag. i love it.

I really wish that all of this stand was metal... I hate that bit of clear plastic at the front :(

I think it is hidious compared to the iCurve; I too don't like the plastic in the front, it should have been all alu or all plastic only. However, it's cool that it is portable but really, how often do you need to bring such an item...
I like my iCurve better.

I love mine...I put in my backpack and take it back and forth to work with me daily. Looks great too.

At first I was disappointed with the construction of the Elevator. It felt more flimsy due to it's three piece structure. However, now I definitely see the bonus of being able to transport it FAR more easily. It's a great investment.

I thought the plastic across the front looks AWFUL. I actually ended up re-gifting mine. Back to the iCurve for me.

I really like mine... only prob was I had to bend those top prongs up a bit to stop my MBP gradually skidding off. (The MBP and rubber pads were thoroughly cleaned). I just put it down to the 35 degrees Celsius summer we're having, and that warm rubber pads don't grip.

Macsnacker,
I had that problem too. But easily fixed, as you said. Just bend the metal up a little bit.

Why can't Apple make a dock similar to Thinkpad's so the ugly cords can go away?

I saw the Griffin 'Elevator' at a CompUSA store (in the Milwaukee area) a few weeks ago.
