Found Footage: New Nike+ commercial

Nike has a new commercial out advertising the Nike+ iPod sports kit. It features a young man getting off a couch, iPod in hand, to go running. He runs on a treadmill whilst he scenery changes in the background. But why are you reading about the commercial, just go watch it!

I saw the longer version of the ad in the cinema with my family before watching 007.Alot of my cousins are iPod and fitness junkies so I explained how it worked to them, and now three of them want one.

I love the commercial! I don't run, but man if I did, I would totally get this system. Apple ipod adverts are worthless. As others mentioned, it shows it talks to you and motivates you with DTE and other metrics. I had read a bit about Nike+ but didn't know that. I could totally see how it would motivational... counting down the last several hundred meters, hit the center button to get your Go! song, and sprinting in the end.

Man, if Steve doesn't have any Kool-Aid for you Apple fanboys to drink, you turn to Hatorade.

I found the longer 60 second version, watch this and see if you don't think it's much better than the 30 sec commercial:

My first thought when I saw this ad on TV was that it was really corny. I imagine the people at Nike thinking, "Hey, kids like iPods and youtube, so this is a perfect way to relate to them".

I doubt apple played a part in making this commercial.

This ad blows. It looks like a first-year film student threw it together.

I've seen this on TV all week, and I too had the first thought "this isn't really in the Apple style." Sure enough, after watching the end carefully, there isn't a mention of Apple at all, just Nike+. So, it's definitely a Nike commercial. I agree that Apple probably signed off on it (see iPod at beginning), but they didn't really *develop* it.

As with any joint partnership, each probably reserves the right to promote it as they see fit (no pun intended). After all, Nike wants to sell shoes, Apple wants to sell iPods. This commercial is kind of a mix, but an Apple developed commercial would probably be all iPods and music, no shoes visible.

This is the short version, there's a 60 second version which is a LOT more dramatic, it builds slowly to a climax, and then the guy smashes through 3 iPod screens with much more force and flying confetti.
When I first saw the long version, I wasn't even watching the TV, I was sitting at my computer and I heard that VOICE saying "Beginning Workout!" just like when I'm out running with my own Nike+iPod. I was suddenly jolted with a rush of adrenaline. Afterwards, I felt like I'd just broken my personal best running time. Now that is motivational.

O.I.

You think Apple had no say in how one of their products was advertised? Think again.

The commercial is okay, not particularly memorable or effective. I've seen it multiple times and never thought it was interesting except that I didn't know the Nike kit gave voice prompts over your music as you worked out, that's pretty cool.
