While MacBooks and iPods have already been unwrapped the world over during this holiday season, retailers are also taking the wraps off some of their own presents in the form of sales numbers. In a press release containing interesting holiday sales trivia and a hot sellers list for all of their many departments, Amazon announced the 13-inch MacBook (in both white and black) and 15.4-inch Sony VAIO notebook as the top sellers in the PC aisle. Interesting - maybe some of that 'non-PC PC' marketing paid off after all.iPods, of course, topped the consumer electronics department, along with Canon Powershot Digital Elph Cameras and Garmin GPSes, but that isn't nearly as interesting news (anymore) as Macs topping out a PC sales list at such a neutral retailer. Rock on Apple.

Well, keep this in mind, 20 of the top 25 are PCs. If I want a mac I only have 5 choices, so those individual items will be higher out of lack of choice. If I want a PC, I have 20 in the top 25 to choose from, not letting Sony, or Toshiba, or HP take the top spot since they take sales from each other. Also it is easier for me to purchase a PC in the store. When I lived near Atlantic City, NJ I had to drive an hour to get to a comp usa or Apple store, so if I wanted a Mac I would have to go there or buy online, like Amazon, if I wanted a PC, there is a Wal-Mart and a Radio Shack right around the corner. So less people need to buy online as opposed to Mac where more people need to shop online. Not everyone lives near an Apple store, but almost everyone lives near a Radio Shack or Wal-Mart.

As much as I love my macbook and Apple in general, it's a bit biased to say that it's a big deal for the macbook to top out a PC sales list at Amazon. I would argue the majority of people who buy pc's online probably buy them from Dell, not Amazon.

Guy, I'm not understanding your logic about the rankings. By yopur logic, Zune--with only only one model and 3 colors--should be ranking higher than all of Apple's many, many types, colors and versions.
I understand that overall, there are much more sales of PCs than there of Macs, but it's best to compare OEMs to OEMS and not OSs to OSs.

Paul Smith, I would also say that most people that buy Apple products online buy them from Apple.com or an Apple store.

Leonard, you would be correct if Zune was the #1 competior to the iPod, but its not, Sandisk Sansa e250 is, the Sansa e250 outsold all Nanos, #3 on Amazon top 25 behind iPod video and shuffle, the Transflash card for the Sansa e250 is #4 before the first Nano. Does that make the Sansa a better seller than the iPod Nano? No. It only has one popular model the e250, while the Nano has 7 models. iPod buyers split their purchases up between the models. If you want to compare OEM to OEM, the Sansa e250 is the #1 2GB to 8GB flash MP3 player of the 2006 holiday season, beating out ALL 7 iPod Nanos.(that is said tongue in cheek). But that wasn't my argument, anyone, like I just did, can twist numbers to make them look they want. That is what that article did. That is my point, Windows is the #1 operating system, and will be for the near future. Just like the iPod will be the #1 MP3 player for that time as well.

FBTN, get a grip. I am not talking about performance or quality at all in my comment, nor did I ever imply such. If you read the entire post, which by the look of your comment you didn't. You would notice I was talking about everything in a purely numbers standpoint. In terms of pure numbers, there are more computers using windows operating systems than Mac OSes. Not arguing which is a better OS. Because I am not bowing down to everything apple, that I must mean i am a windows user, you could very well be mistaken. I was making that point that the original article is very skewed to make Macbooks look like they are outselling PC notebooks which they aren't. And to clarify for those of you with diminished intelligence like FBTN. Windows is the #1 selling OS and will be for the near future and the iPod will be the #1 selling MP3 player for the near future. Hope that clears this up. You are free to disagree with a comment, just don't make it so juvenile, this is why many Windows users think of Mac users as "fanboys". If somebody says anything negative towards apple or a mac then they must be stupid. I know not all Mac users are not like that and all Windows users are drones or sheep. Everyone uses their OS of choice for a reason, argue the points.
