Saving Quicktime Trailers from Apple

Saving any QuickTime movie is a breeze if you have QuickTime Pro. I downloaded this Fantastic Four trailer (in HD), let it finish loading, and then selected File > Save As... and I was done. What if you don't want to shell out the dough for a QT Pro license? Well, Krunk4Ever (who isn't a fan of QT) has a tip that'll let you download the trailers from Apple just by delving into the HTML of the trailer webpage and using a little command line trickery to download the file.
Pretty cool, I suppose, but it is much easier to just visit the iTunes Store Movie Trailer section and download the videos that way. iTunes will happily download any trailer that is available and scot free at that, no DRM in sight. Oddly, though, it does place the trailers in the 'Podcast' section of your iTunes library.
Each of these three options will get the job done though one isn't free, one isn't easy, and one is both free and easy. Choose wisely.

There is another way to save any movie or video with QT.
Let the movie ends (or move the slider to the end), drag a small jpeg image (eg. 30x30 pixels) to the QT window and close the window. QT then will ask you if you want to save the movie. Select "Save" and "Save as reference movie" and you are done.

Perhaps I am missing something: could anyone please tell me how to save trailers from within iTunes. I have played around with it and could not figure it out. Of course I can play the trailer but then how to save it?

Richard, if you downloaded a trailer from iTunes then it is already saved on your Mac (or PC). Just right click on the trailer in your iTunes library and pick 'Show in Finder.' There's the file just waiting for you.

Or just hit Command-I in Quicktime when the movie is loading to open the info window, highlight the URL, copy it, then paste it into Safari's download window. Works like a charm.

if the video is linked directly, option click the link. Or if you are watching it, press option+enter with the location bar highlighted.
You do not need to wait for the movie to finish loading to do this.
If the video isnt linked directly, press option+command+a to bring up the activity monitor and find the exact url of the movie (easier than looking through the source at times)

Option+Command+A doesn't work on a default install of QuickTime as you'll notice all .mov files are left out of the site manifest. To make this work, you'll have to Quit Safari, remove QuickTime Plugin.webplugin from the /Library/Internet Plug-ins folder then restart Safari.
Now you'll see .mov's in the Activity window, rarin' to be downloaded!

A much easier way would be to find the direct link on this website. http://www.davestrailerpage.co.uk/

I use Adblock Plus in firefox, so I just click the "Adblock" icon next the the video and drag the URL to the download box.

Instead of waiting for the file to be downloaded on Quicktime, you can get the url from the file info (apple+i), then use the command "curl" to download the trailer. Just type "curl -o " on the terminal and voilá, a faster way to get the trailer.

Just make the url into an html link, place in a text file- save as test.html - and open in your browser, right click on the link and goto save as or save target as. Easy said and done!

Why do you need to save the Trailers from Apple anyways? It's just a Trailer.

"how do i get rid of the quicktime icon in my taskbar?"
Seriously? By task bar, I do you mean Dock? If so, just drag the icon off the dock and release. Poof! it disappears (literally...).
