TUAW predictions for Macworld 07
It's the new year boys and girls, which means (amongst other things) that Macworld will soon be upon us. As such, it is only fitting that we dust off TUAW's crystal ball to envision what we think will be unveiled both on and off stage. Now we don't have any insider information - this is all simply logical deduction sprinkled with some wishful thinking, so don't bet the bank on any of this. That said, we present you TUAW's predictions for Macworld 07, in order of blogger's last name:Victor Agreda Jr.
- Google integration (iTV + YouTube)
- API's for iTV (for El Gato, in particular). Maybe that's a wish; I really, truly doubt Apple and El Gato will play in the same sandbox
- HD content on iTunes ('07 is the true year of HD)
- A gold nano - for Steve, as he announces retiring in 2008
- Some sort of Spreadsheet addition to iWork 07
- .Mac will "somehow get better"
David Chartier
- I agree with everyone else: iLife and iWork 07 are a sure thing
- No Apple iPhone - mostly because, if true, it could possibly go down in history as one of the most hyped yet never announced fanaticware products of all time
- I've been hoping for a video update to the AirPort Express, but it seems like the iTV more or less kills that idea; I predict it ships at Macworld
- On Leopard: I again agree with everyone else on a ship date being announced
Laurie A. Duncan
- The Mac mini will get a Core 2 Duo upgrade - although not necessarily across the line. I wouldn't put it past them to keep the sub-$600 model a single Core Duo
- A major iTunes-related content announcement
- Hopefully a new stand-alone iSight camera because as much as I dig the convenience of having one built in to my iMac and MacBook, it's not terribly convenient for scanning my many shelves of books into Delicious Library, for instance (I still have my old FW iSight for such occassions, but a shiny new one would be nice)
- I am fairly certain we'll get to hear what the "iTV" will actually be called, along with a ship date and I'm pretty sure we'll hear a Leopard ship date
- I'm not seeing an iPhone(y) (aka iVox in the pretend world where I am in charge of such things) in my crystal ball, although I suspect there will be a number of jokes about it
Mat Lu
- Leopard released earlier than expected
- iTV finalized
- revised iPods
- no iPhone
- CS3 released earlier than expected
Dan Lurie
- Release date and complete feature set for Leopard
- iLife/Work '07
- iTV release date and complete feature set.
- iPhone (You have no idea how much I want this one to be right)
Scott McNulty
- iLife and iWork 07
- Refreshed Cinema Displays
- Leopard ship date announced
Michael Rose
- Likewise on Leopard release date
- Minimum of three additional studios for iTunes movie store
- "iTV" official announcement, integration with Elgato products for capture
- Major digital asset management product announcement for pro video space, stemming from Proximity acquisition
- One more thing: 8-core Mac Pro
- One MORE more thing: iPod Phone - multi-service chat presence included
Erica Sadun
- iLife and iWork 07
- iTV ships
- Leopard ship date
- iPhone announcement
- iDogCow - because every good prediction should have an absolutely wrong item in it. Viva Clarus. Moof!

I'm not into crystal balls as such but since we are dreaming here is what I'm hoping for:
1. Revised iPods (one with a wider/touch screen)
2. iWork 07 w/ new version of iWeb (with html view for direct code editing) and more templates
3. New spreadsheet app
4. Clarification of iTV and a ship date
5. New upgrade to the whole computer line (including the Mac Mini) with Leopard (available "today")
6. New version of iTunes with more movies via new studios other than Disney (available "today")
7. An announcement of an upcoming iPhone of some type

The 'iPhone' cannot be described as vaporware because Apple never announced it. In fact, Apple has never said a word about such a device. It's conjecture on the part of Apple fanatics.

"One more thing: 8-core Mac Pro"
God, I hope so. And if they are announced, I hope they're taking orders that very day. I need one for February and I've been holding out for MWSF just in case.

This list serves more as check sheet to determine which bloggers are morons. Several expect no ipod phone device? For christ sake, do you think the wall street analysts are greater morons than yourselves?

This is kinda funny: If Leopard unleashed earlier then expected AND they release an 8 core Mac Pro/ Drop the price of Mac Pro's. The temptation will be too much for me and will ruin the little plan I have goin' in my head. If all this was to be done by spring like I had etched out in my head I would have plenty of time to finish off the bill I have from my switch to a MBP last year!

iWork and iLife '07 - Almost certainly previewed and if not released ready for sale shortly, possibly in conjunction with Leopard. Ever since its launch, I've thought that iWeb in a way makes more sense to go in iWork since in many ways it's like Pages, maybe it will come with both, after all iTunes is part of iLife and it's free. Hopefully Pages will support some open formats and offer a more traditional word processing type set of functionality to broaden its spectrum. Hopefully a basic spreadhseet app as well.
Leopard - Further previews, announcement of other features. On sale April?
No iPhone - at best a Mac only iPod which interfaces with iChat and other Mac apps and acts as a portable iSight, controls your online status - shows you as away, logs you out when you move out of range etc. Really show off Mac integration.
iTV - details finalised as to name, functions, spec etc. Hopefully on sale, not so likely to be related to Leopard release since it works with PC's - although maybe it will have limited, iTunes only functionality.
Unless... iTunes does more than just "tunes", it does video, games, synching and so on - it's poorly named. The iPod contacts and photo related stuff is primarily because of it having to run on a PC. Personally, I don't see why they couldn't make iSync for windows and have them do what their names suggest. If an iPhone or any other type of device was launched it would make sense to be able to configure all devices in one place, your phone, portable mac tablet, etc. Personally I'd like to see iSync do what it's supposed to do.
iStore - with iTunes' increasing diversity and renowned quality, I think Apple could really make a killing if they really pushed the non-browser based way of selling things. Buy your music, videos (films, tv, etc), games and so on as normal, but also give access to their regular store. Hell they could even sign deals with third party retailers and give them access. You just subscribe to a retailer module and it gives you access to their store in a beautiful iTunes-esque interface. Stores look the same, all work in the same way - all work. You could even use the same account details for all of them - The Disney Store to be the first available. I think Apple have strong enough penetration that they can really expand beyond iTunes into retail in general.

Could that be the device running a mini version of OSX?

Here's my take on iTV and YouTube / open APIs
Could YouTube be the killer-app for Apple’s iTV?

@moe - absolutely, analysts are morons and i would take the learned opinion of a mac blogger over some wall street dimwit any day of the week. wall street were the ones predicting apple's imminent demise, they were the ones who claimed the ipod was a fad, they're the ones who consistently say ipod sales were less than apple's predictions, they're the ones who said itunes sales have tanked.
put simply -- when it comes to apple stock market "experts" are anything but.
having said that, i think we will see an iphone, more accurately i hope we do. i need a new phone and as an apple stock holder, no iphone would send the stock in to a death spiral after all these analysts waxed philosophic over a non-existent product.

You guys are really going out on a limb with the iLife and iWork '07 prediction. :-)About as risky as saying the next US President will be either a Democrat or a Republican. And wasn't the iTV device already pre-announced as showing up in January? Where's all your insider information? How about some iPhone specs, like it's going to be made out of zirconium and cost $275 at the low end? Too many safe predictions...
