Flex Builder 2.0.1 brings full Mac support
Adobe is just piling on the Mac love, aren't they? First they bring back Mac support for Premiere (though Intel only) and now they announce the Flex Builder 2.0.1 brings with it full Mac support (that's both PPC and Intel Macs, bub). Not too shabby.Flex Builder is Adobe's IDE, which is built on Eclipse, that allows you to create Flex applications (basically Flash applications that are written using a variant of XML rather than using Flash and ActionScript, though you can use ActionScript in Flex as well). Flex Builder 2.0.1 is available now, and it costs $749.

You had me until you got to the price...

I've yet to use charting for anything and it can be bought seperately later if need be. So you can buy the basic version for $499.
Yes, unfortunately, Adobe hasn't done the best job of communicating what Flex is -- that and it is a little subtle. But Flex support MXML and ActionScript 3, and while a lot of it happens behind the scenes, even if you program in AS3 there's a little Flex magic happening there in terms of the compiler.
Note that this is not the only choice on the Mac; you can use Adobe's free SDK with the command line for free. Not as seamless, but the price is right, and it gives you more choices for your editor, etc. I expect these options will expand over the next few months.
Also, academic users can have Flex for far less than $749, if anyone was balking at the price.
Very delightful news, although you got a minor detail wrong. Flex does indeed use ActionScript. In fact it is, besides a Flash 9 Developer Beta, the only application capable of using ActionScript 3, which is the latest iteration of the language.
