Airport Extreme is all-new

Though unmentioned in the iPhone lovefest, there's another new product popping up on apple.com: the all new Airport Extreme. It's flat, in the half-Mini shape of the iTV Apple TV. It's fast; 802.11 n + a/b/g compatible. It has USB for printer sharing AND support for attaching a shared hard drive. It's got three LAN Ethernet ports (yay!) that run at 100mbit (boo!). Shipping now in February for $179.

thanks Andrew and everyone else who sent this in.

Any idea if you might be able to plug a creative xmod in to provide airtunes sort of functionality. I have ordered one and kind of assumed that it would have airtunes functionality. I also have a core duo macbook so the lack of n support is a little annoying but oh well, I've only just moved from b to g anyway!

Just wait. All the whiners will have an upgrade option to throw away your airport extreme and slip in the new Atheros chipset (802.11a, 802.11n).

Does it include a router/modem for adsl or is just a wifi base station?

What I want to know is where are the antennas? All the other N base stations have these three wacky antennas that I was made to believe was crucial to the way .11N works. Hmmmm....

For the price--it should have included gigabit and possibly another ethernet port.

"So what happen if i want to use BOTH Printer and external HD?"

According to the Apple website:

"What if you’d like to exchange files over your wireless network and still have access to a network printer? Easy. Just connect a USB hub to AirPort Extreme and attach your devices to the hub. Share both a printer and a hard drive, multiple printers, or multiple hard drives."

If you look at the Apple website, you'll find that you can "Just connect a USB hub to AirPort Extreme and attach your devices to the hub. Share both a printer and a hard drive, multiple printers, or multiple hard drives."
