I spoke with the folks at the Roxio booth here at Macworld Expo 2007 about that slight complaint many of us have over the much-anticipated new TiVo To Go client being bundled into Toast for the not-so-low price of $99. Obviously, if you're looking for the power of Toast and TiVo To Go, this is a killer deal since the inclusion of this hot new software didn't increase Toast's price at all. For everyone else just looking to score a TiVo fix, Roxio did say the don't have any immediate plans for a stand-alone TiVo client, but they *would* consider it if enough (potential) customers expressed interest.
Obviously, this is by no means a promise, but they at least didn't slam the book on the idea and kick me out of the booth.

The link you posted to "express interest" puts us on a page that has no way to contact them except calling customer support. I don't see a customer support tech forwarding on the request for a standalone client.
Possibly someone else could stop at Roxio booth and get info on who to contact directly about this.
Maybe one of those online petitions can be started?

Don't forget, if you already own Toast choose the upgrade use the 404SAVE10 coupon code to get Toast 8 for $53.99 downloaded immediately. no rebate needed.
That is really nothing to complain about. They dropped the price by $20 for the upgrade since the initial release date, when it was $79.99 AFTER rebate. that was the same as buying it new, which was stupid. glad i waited a day...

TivoDecode Manager seems to have more features and allows encoding at a larger size (I believe Tivo considers it an antipiracy policy to disallow anything larger than 320x240, inadequate for watching even on my eight-year-old standard TV). Oh, and the free part? That's nice. He has a list of features he plans to include in updates, too, but even now it's arguably better than the old TivoTool for Series 1 Tivos.
Isn't iTunes extensible through plugins? What we need is an iTunes plugin that would add a Tivo source to the left panel of iTunes, display a list of recorded shows, and allow you to encode and import automatically. Exactly the way CDs are currently encoded except using Bonjour to find the Tivo and display the shows. For people who care about encoding to iPods or PSPs, the idea of standalone software is silly.

Worth it to me and I ordered it the moment news popped on TUAW. Unfortunately, enthusiasm and as many troubleshooting steps as I can think of haven't gotten it functional yet. Software sees my TiVo but not its programs. Users should be aware that they will find woeful documentation and a support page on the Roxio web site that is a joke. I'm not happy, but hopeful that when more people start wrestling with the glitches, we'll figure it all out.

It doesnt matter what they do with it as it does not work. All over Roxio's community discussions board are pissed off people that are having trouble with it. I bought it just to try it out, and sure enough, it does not work. There is a glitch where if your Tivo changed channels before your actual show started so it could record your show, TivoToGo thinks that channel change is the end of the show, so you get about 4 seconds of a transfer before it stops working. You would think they would have something so basic worked out before releasing it...now I have a piece of software that while it burns discs, I cannot get anything off it from Tivo to burn!

Like the two posters above, I bought in and have been astonished at how messed up Roxio is over this. In my case, the program wouldn’t even launch (when following the miserably poor excuse for directions on their site). After 30+ minutes using the automated “RoxAnne” help module (I want to bury that thing) and 45 minutes in Live Chat with a tech who knew less than me, I finally called customer serivce, and insisted on the phone number for tech support.
Who also knew nothing. Twenty minutes of nothing.
After tinkering around, I was stunned to see (drum roll please) a stand alone TiVo app in my Roxio folder (!?!?).
Shut down Toast. Launch TiVo Transfer app. Happy sailing.
Urgh.
