Peter Maurer Up to Many (new) Tricks: yFlicks

Peter Maurer is an interesting Mac developer. He's a German medical student who also happens to write really excellent Mac software in his spare time, probably most importantly Butler. He's already developed and sold several excellent apps such as TextExpander (was Textpander), MenuCalendarClock (was Calendarclock), and now yFlicks (was Clip Show); however, instead of selling yFlicks to another company this time he's decided to start his own: Many Tricks. He has always offered free licenses to people who have contributed to the pre-commercial versions of his software and he continues this laudable practice with yFlicks. Those who contributed to Maurer for Clip Show prior to Jan 12, 2007 are eligible for a free license for yFlicks.

yFlicks is a video player based on QuickTime. In some ways it looks sort of like an iPhoto for videos, allowing you to "play videos in fullscreen mode, organize your videos in groups, search them, rate them, and browse them in preview mode." In addition, like TubeSock and Tubular it allows you (with Perian) to download videos from YourTube or Google and then export them to your iPod.

yFlicks is €15 (~$19) and a demo is available.

[Edit: reverted to a language I actually know and clarified upgrade policy]

Thanks for the corrections, guys; I've decided to give up and just use 'was'!

@Peter: I just eliminated the confusing clause. Looking forward to seeing what other new "tricks" you have up your sleeve.

Actually it may be née (but certainly not neé or even worse nèe or neè), since it's used to give maiden name of married women.

The proper spelling is "né" (past participle, "born"), not "nè".

Your accent is still not ok. The è is a grave accent.

Thanks, Mat, for pointing out yFlicks. I'm glad you found it worth mentioning, and I'm very flatterd by your "really excellent Mac software" verdict. :-)

I'd like to add two little annotations, though:

Firstly, Many Tricks isn't just a new name for yours truly. There's also Alex Schoen, who is -- in fact -- responsible for most of the code that distinguishes yFlicks from its predecessor, Clip Show. Clip Show was just a player with a very simple playlist/history, while yFlicks is indeed "sort of like an iPhoto for videos", as you've put it very aptly.

Secondly, the wording of your posting has caused a slight misunderstanding concerning the question who's eligible to a free yFlicks license. Some users seem to think that those who have donated for Butler, for instance, will also receive a yFlicks license. I'm afraid that's not the case. As stated on my web site, only those users who have donated for the original Clip Show on or before January 12, 2007 are eligible for a free yFlicks license. Thanks for understanding.

Mat, you should use "né" not "neè". The accent is acute and as is it for "logiciel" (software in French), a masculine word, no extra "e" is needed at the end.
