Garmin Releases Training Center for Mac
We previously mentioned that leading GPS-maker Garmin was planning to release their long delayed Training Center software for OS X. Garmin Training Center is designed to work with Garmin's line of wrist and bike GPS devices to allow you track a variety of workout data (routes, heartrate, etc.). People have been waiting for this for over a year since it was announced, so it's about time. Now if they'd only make their MapSource software Mac-compatible, we'd be talking.Garmin Training Center is available now as a free download from Garmin.

It looks pretty good. They did a nice job with the interface, and the prefereneces (like workout zones) are MUCH better than the Windows version.
It also includes a BaseMap of the whole world that your workouts are mapped on. Since they have the basemap, I have to assume they are at least able to port the rest of MapSource relatively quickly.

However the compatable Garmin device i have (forrunner 201) uses a stupid old serial connection.

I've had this since MacWorld, when they were giving out free CDs on the show floor. In my opinion, they did a very poor job. Visually and functionally, it's a near-clone of the PC version. It took them a year to do that?
I've had my Forerunner 301 for nearly two years, so in that time I've accumulated lots of data. I've been using my GF's WinXP box to download the data. The really annoying thing is for whatever reason, when I try to import my history into the Mac version, it freezes - at least I think it does. It pounds on the processor for at least two hours without doing anything, and I have to force quit the app. This means, for all intents and purposes, I'm still tied to the Windows version, until they can fix this bug.
Garmin gets a very low grade from me!

If you are looking for a useful accessory for Training Center, take a look at TrailRunner.
TrailRunner can read your Training Center History and displays your courses on background maps from various internet sources.
Other features are a KML/GPX Import and export, a workout diary and a .Mac web log.
Take a look at http://trailrunnerx.com
