Jobs' Years in the Wilderness - NeXT
I'm always a sucker for interesting stories about the history of the Mac and I just ran across this fascinating account of Steve Jobs in the eleven years after he left (or was pushed out of) Apple and his triumphant return in 1996. It's an interesting story, well-told, and all of the characteristic Jobsian traits are on display, including and especially his quasi-maniacal perfectionism and demand for control. And of course since OS X is built on what was NeXTstep, it's also a kind of genealogy of our favorite operating system as well. Head over to Low End Mac for a very interesting read.

He cites all of his sources, including quotations. The charge of plagiarism shouldn't be leveled without evidence.

This articles, and other ones by Thomas Hormby read like they come from any number of Apple book over the years.... I guess plagiarism is alive and well and on web? I just can't believe Low End Mac would publish this.

Well, I don't know what you were animating at 30fps in 1985...
but you're right about the monitor thing. You must've been using an Amiga, which was the Mac of it's day.
Some claims in the article are bogus. Like how it claims in 1986 that all other computers where monchrome. I was animating in color at 30 fps in 1985. And it makes a big deal about stereo. My same computer in 1985 had stereo. Somebody should do some fact checking.
