DotNET developer visits Leopard developer tech talk
Kevin Hoffman of DotnetAddict talks about his attendance at the recent New York City Apple tech talk. As the site name indicates, Hoffman is a Windows .NET developer so he has a fascinating take on the subject--especially his wowed reaction to OS X features such as Quartz Composer and core Animation. Being under NDA, he does not reveal specific Leopard details, but it's nice to see a Windows guy start to fall in love. You don't have to be under a "reality distortion field" to appreciate the technical advances of OS X. [via Digg]

I've been developing web sites using .NET (Classic ASP prior) on the Windows platform for years in my career. For the past year I've been using macs at home. I installed Visual Studio.NET, SQL Server on Parallels on my new macbook. So far the Parallels install has only been used for IE-checking, though, and it's getting harder and harder to sit down on a Windows machine each day at work.

Why does the image on the page look like a Mac G5/Pro power button and case?

With Leopard, I may finally become interested in developing for the Mac. I'm a .NET developer (for my sins), and I've not so much run screaming from non-managed languages as just found them counterproductive for 90% of what I do. The remaining 10% of the work is split down the middle, 5% that it really doesn't matter who does the memory management, and the 5% or less where it might be handy to do my own.
It's good to get the perspective from another .NET dev, because XCode does seem quite nice in places, and a lot of the tools look pretty good.
