New UK Get A Mac ads

Several TUAW readers have written in to let us know that the UK just debuted its own "Get a Mac" adverts, starring Peep Show comedy act Mitchell and Webb as Mac and PC. After the US and Japanese offerings, these UK ads have a distinctly British feel to them. Some videos will feel familiar and are basically re-do's of the original US ads; others are brand new to the UK market. Fantastic!

Thanks everyone who wrote in.

I couldn't think of anything worse than that. I think you forget Ricky Gervais has a way of getting people's backs up. You love or hate him (I can't stand him).

"My vote would have been for Ricky Gervais (Mac) and Martin Freeman (Mac) from the original BBC The Office. Posted at 11:57PM on Jan 28th 2007 by Qui"

Disagree, you have to give kudos to Apple for not foisting us with the US ads like so many companies do "It's because we're worth it" : )

"Anyway, I don't know why they needed to create UK-specific ads (I'm a Brit btw). I think the US ones would have served just fine. Posted at 9:48AM on Jan 29th 2007 by Jon"

Mitchell & Webb are also releasing a film this year, The Magicians imdb.com/title/tt0841027/

Shocking... They should just go back to the one with the boy and his dog setting up an iMac, and then burry these pieces of crap.

I love Pie Chart! It's funny to see the same ad for a different audience and even though its the same language, different slang...

"The light grey area could represent shenanigans and tom-foolery while this dark grey area could represent hijinks. And you see here, we further divided hijinks into capers, monkey business, and just larking about."

Hilarious. Of course, I'm just a yank that happens to enjoy British comedy anyway (Python, etc)

Don't really like it.

Normally I'm a huge fan of British humor too...it's so quirky and different from American humor.

Maybe that's why these ads don't work as well (for me)... it was originally written by and for Americans so when they ported it, it just didn't work.

My two cents.

Excellent! We saw Mitchell & Webb recently live, amazed that they're doing it.

It's like the bowled a wide in the uefa cricket championships and won.

I hate, hate, hate (dammit) the way that the ad automatically plays on the Apple homepage, and you can't stop it. This morning, I nipped in to check something out on Apple (I know, I should have been doing some work), when "I'M A MAC! AND I'M A PC" blared forth from my speakers.

Red-faced, I made a wild stab at my keyboard for the mute key, but instead hit the volume-up key. Got strange looks from various colleagues.

For some reason, I can't get the ads to play on the Apple site. I can only view the YouTube one.

Anyway, I don't know why they needed to create UK-specific ads (I'm a Brit btw). I think the US ones would have served just fine.

I really didn't like the casting though. PC was WAY more interesting than Mac, who was dull and lifeless (even more so than Justin Long).

@23 though unfortuately whilst we do have a rich history of comedy it seems we've lost the ability to string a coherent sentence together
