My Mac needs a Tardis
The boys at BoingBoing stumble across so many wonderful things--and today they've topped themselves again. A Tardis-shaped USB hub. I want one. No, I need one. Not just for me, but for my Mac. Because I'm unselfish like that. Call me a geek, call me a nerd, whatever. The Tardis-hub has 4 ports and it goes vwooorp-vwooorp when you plug in a device. Can technology get any better than that? I think not. It's theoretically for sale over at Firebox, but the page says it's currently unavailable. Nothing, of course, that a little space-time manipulation can't solve. If US purchasers don't mind ordering overseas, it's available at Amazon UK (for £14.99), Forbidden Planet, Play.com, and so forth.

Apparently it is available for folks accessing the site from the UK. At least that is what I have heard. I hope this will be available for us in the states soon. As I too NEED one.

What's really cool is that it has 4 ports on the outside and 75 on the inside.

Hey, guys can you please correct the typing of the acronym TARDIS (not Tardis).
Otherwise nice little gadget to have next to the PC.

I live in the UK and it's listed as "in stock". I don't even want one. Just thought I'd rub salt in the wound ;)

Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme.
I would've been even more thrilled if you'd described the noise as a "wheezing, groaning sound" but good job nonetheless :)

I saw this yesterday on BoingBoing and also said "I must have this" Happy to see I'm not the only geek/nerd out there who loves Doctor Who.

I got one of these for christmas from amazon, it's really cool looking and the blue light on top is damn bright (in the dark). The TARDIS sound when you plug in a USB device is really loud!

Put in a request over at Cyberguys or their Xtreme Geek website. This is a perfect product for their website/catalogs.
Now, where's the Dalek version*?
*Avoiding making any Billie Piper model jokes about how many USB ports that would include...

Now if I could just get my dead iMac DV to regenerate into a Mac Pro...
Seriously, David Tennant is the best Doctor since Tom Baker. I have heard he's signed until at least 2008! He's wanted to be the Doctor since he was a kid (didn't we all?). I doubt he'll take off on us like Chris Eccleston did.

Tennant won't be leaving like Eccleston did, as Eccleston's plan was only to do one series anyway to relaunch Doctor Who. Tennant has signed until 2008, with the option that he can extend for another 2-4 years after the original contract expires.
And for those of you who want to get the Tardis USB Hub (as well as other Doctor Who toys such as the sonic screwdriver pen, Cyberman Helmet, Action Figures, etc.) Just go to your local comic book shop. Almost ALL comic book shops have to buy from Diamond Comics Distributors, and they have had all this doctor who stuff in their PREVIEWS catalog for months now. It should be extremely simple for your local comic retailer to order them for you, and you get to support your local comic shop as well!
I have the USB Hub and it's pretty neat. Also for cellphone-o-philes there's a TARDIS that you can plug into your wall and will alert you if there is an incoming phone call for you ala the TARDIS engine sounds and flashing light. Itsounds kind of useless, but is nice if you're in the other room from your cellphone and miss a lot of calls. It rarely picks up false signals, but beware if you have a neighbor that also uses a cellphone...

The problem with trying to get stuff through Diamond Comics is fulfillment. I've ordered the sonic screwdriver, talking money bank and lots of other Dr Who stuff & all I have to show for it is one small Dalek! And no it's not my shop. They get lots of odd things for me with no problems. I've sent a request in to ThinkGeek...maybe they'll get it.
