Beta Beat: Cha-Ching 0.5.1
Cha-Ching is a fantastic app, one of the very best out there for simply and elegantly managing your money on the Mac. I use it all the time! Erm... well, I would use it all the time, if I had any money to manage. No reason you can't enjoy manipulating your money with this great app though!Version 0.5.1 brings mostly bug fixes, but bug fixes are important in beta apps, where a single bug sometimes mean a broken feature. Fixes include:
- .Mac uploading issues.
- Startup crash when iPod is connected.
- Interface bugs.
- QIF importing.

So…have they added support for multiple accounts yet? If not, it's useless as an app for managing your finances.

I bought it because it's such a cheap price right now and if the app ends up being great, I'd love to have a legal copy. I mean this thing really only manages things like basic savings and checking accounts though. Things like credit cards, high interest online savings accounts, and stocks / mutual fund accounts don't really work with this. However, for a basic budgeting system, it works.

How does this compare to ibank 2?

I tried the previous version and it's nice. Has potential. But, paying for a Beta? No thanks, I'm not that daft. I'd be willing to revisit this app when it's out of Beta though.

have you actually used it?
It really is terribly underdone. Beside eye-candy, there is nothing to recommend it beyond "potential". But everything not-yet-done has potentail.

Quicken for Mac sucking so much leaves lots of room for other finance software. Sadly, at the end of the day, Quicken for Mac seems to offer more features. I think Intuit is capable of making good Mac software though. The latest TurboTax for Mac is pretty good (Universal Binary to boot).

TUAW are those numerious posts about Cha-Ching a paid for ad? You have been posting on every intermediary release of this software! After the first post all other posts were empty of any info! This is cheap! And does not incourage trust in your opinions...

I've used Quicken and some others, and Cha-Ching is my preference. I'm not looking for the highest feature count, I'm want an something that does the basics cleanly with a nice experience.
As for paying for a beta, don't read too much into the label. Plenty of developers ship "final" software that is really of beta quality. These guys ask for money for it so they can fund development. If you've tried to do independent development, you know funding the process is not easy.

Well the incentive to pay for the beta is that it's half price now - it will be $30 when it hits 1.0 and hopefully it won't suck then. At this point though, i'm back to my manual excel spreadsheets.
well... neooffice spreadsheets :-)

I've yet to try cha-ching, but judging from the screenshots and features list, ibank seems like the better app.
