Gaming on the Apple TV?
Will the AppleTV be a gaming platform as well as a simple video receiver? Our sister blog Engadget discovered that games company PopCap may have divulged game development plans during an interview with Wired. Ryan Block writes that AppleTV's HD support might hint at specific HD gaming development but he wonders how anyone would get gaming with Apple's minimal remote.
Here at TUAW, we remain skeptical. But if an AppleTV gaming solution would suddenly materialize, we'd respond with happy cries of "Wii!". Or something like that. Pop over to Engadget to read more about the story.

Why would Apple want you to use the included remote when they can charge extra for a specialized "gamepad"?

selling optional Bluetooth controllers seem like a pretty obvious choice.
But then again if it were casual games, like chess, checkers, monopoly, scrabble, etc... then the included Apple remote would be fine.

But the Apple TV doesn't support Bluetooth.

Yeah, cuz you know.. a freakin D pad has its limitations in the world of gaming, you frigging genius.
(Translation: AppleTV Games, much more complex than the rinky dink iPod games. Wireless Controller not given away. Shock.)

Not sure if they wanna go "gaming" with appleTV. But there's certainly room for more than just media streaming.
SONY PLAYSTATION is a huge thing for parties with the "Singstar" (karaoke) DVD. Things like that could run on an appleTV (not too graphic intensive).
Here's not saying that we gonna see exactly that, but i wouldn't be surprised if Apple has some more stuff up their sleeves. Probably not some random games, but fun stuff like that Singstar from SONY. At least to me that would make sense.

Games I'm sure have always been on the list for Apple TV. It's an area that Apple can explore. This doesn't mean PS3/xbox360 graphics. Games can be fun without that hardware. Consider the market that Apple is looking to sell for. Not all of them are going to be hardcore gamers that need the latest, greatest technology. One look at the games on the ipod and you can see where Apple might go.
It's not as crazy as some might think. If this doesn't happen at release, I'm sure games will be available come xmas time.

Woudn't it be easier to buy Nintendo then to compete with the same mindset?
