Rumors: CompUSA pulls Mac Pros

Are new Mac Pros on the way? That's what JackSYi, a poster over at the MacRumors forums, seems to think. He writes that CompUSA just placed their Mac Pro inventory as "D status", which I'm guessing means "discontinued", in anticipation of new models arriving next week. He says that all Mac Pros, including demo models, are being pulled off the shelves to make room for the new inventory. If true, what do you readers think the refreshed specs will be? Or do you think this is all malarkey? Let us know in the comments.

Update: Since this post was written, JackSYi has posted again over at MacRumors saying that the memo was read wrong and the Mac Pros aren't being discontinued. Thanks Mark.

We offer the 18 month finance offer for apples about once every two months. Generally Apple systems are exempt from the promotions. If you want longer financing by a TV at the same time and get 36 month!

BTW: All Mac Pro's in CompUSA inventory are back to a01 status: Stores will be automatically restocked when inventory goes below demo + 2. My store is the top non-Apple, Apple Retail store in the midwest an we will sell through 10-15 iMacs a week, 15-20 Macbooks (standard and pro) and about Mac Pro's a week.

FYI: N wireless base stations will be in this Monday or Tuesday, they were air shipped last wed to our stores.

This is bizarre ... I was just going to go to CompUSA today (Saturday, Feb. 10) to get a new Mac Pro when a friend sent me this link. CompUSA is having an offer of no interest for 18 months when you sign up for their credit card that ends today. If there are any current or past CompUSA employees reading this, can you tell me if CompUSA has this offer often and, if so, how often because obviously I'd love to hold off if a newer Mac Pro is on it's way shortly. Thanks!

I ammend my previous comment. I don't work for Comp anymore so I didn't know the actual status. I stand corrected.

D status just means CompUSA isn't ordering more of that SKU. It can sit out there on D01 for months. It's all in part of the run-up to WWDC. I'm suprised that they're pulling stuff off the shelves, though. Usually Comp leaves the demo Macs up no matter what the specs are as long as they look the same. They don't like to have a bunch of open box Macs running around since the margin is so low, and they don't want to have to discount them.

@ 9. You're local CompUSA is still getting G5's? Tell me what town it is and I'll have in transfered to my store so they can cut the price mark the price down rediculously low.

Again its time for a CompUSSR worker to step it. No Mac Pro's are in D status. They were shifted to an A22 status, which means they were special order, but they are not A01, normal automatic restock.

I wouldn't have believed this anyways. I used to work at a CompUSA. It took them at least a full week AFTER new products were announced to have the product listed as "D Code" (not status). And sometimes a few weeks before they got any stock in.

I've yet to see a single Mac Pro at my local CompUSA. They have newer models of every product line, except they're still selling G5s instead of Mac Pros. The worst part is that the G5s aren't marked down at all.

Better be some 8-core love or heads should roll.

One of the "positives" about the Intel switch was that we were to have more frequent product updates. Intel released an semi-8-core back in November and an updated one in January.
