Apple announces Lionsgate Movies now in the iTunes Store
Apple today announced the availability of movies from the Lionsgate studio in the iTunes Store. Blockbusters like Terminator 2, LA Story and Basic Instinct are available today, with more than 150 titles on their way by the end of the month.Unfortunately, this looks like another Paramount score - unless those movies still en route are new releases, it feels a lot more like Lionsgate is still wearing the bright orange floaties while dabbling their toes on the kiddie side of the pool, instead of waking up and actually embracing the future.

Does anyone else remember that the president of Lionsgate said all his films would be on the iTS by the end of LAST year?

How is putting a back catalog up quickly not embracing the future, David? Honestly.
They've got movies up on the XBox 360's Live platform, too. But you don't want to know about that, now, do you? :)

RotaJota, is a month really that big of a deal?
My problem is: why, if Lionsgate has a catalog of over 10,000, do they give us a measily 400+? I think 1000 would have been a little more considerate.
Isn't one of the main advantages to the digital online format is that distribution is much more economic since they only need to make one copy which people purchase, rather than one copy per consumer?
I wan't rare movies. I want uncommon movies. I want to rediscover movies the way iTunes allowed me to rediscover my music.

It takes time and money to oversee proper conversion of the master digital recording to MP4, even if Apple is giving free tool use to its partners. To do it right, you don't just do an automated batch conversion, but check every scene.
If you want rare movies online, go try greencine.com, which has a lot of VOD. Unfortunately, they don't have anything for Mac users...
