Please don't be one of those folks who thinks criticism is "hatred".
I have to admit I do like Disco. The UI is both slick and functional. Spandex is an innovative feature, and I do find it useful for keeping track of my volumes of stuff. However even now the product is out of beta I still get no smoke. Silly I know but I had kind of hoped the final release would have fixed this. Is anyone else seeing a smoke free Disco? I'm running on a 24" iMac with nVidia 7600GT graphics and am not seeing the Disco Inferno I hoped for.

I bought it for my Mom a few months back and she absolutely loves it. As a very un-savvy computer user, it walks her right through each step and she can always tell what it is doing. Is it the end-all be-all of burning Apps? No - but it fills its spot well.
February 12 2007 at 1:36 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWell I'm going to be honest. I was a Disco hater (tried the Betas...not real impressed) but the fact that they took the effort to make the smoke work on any computer makes it sound like they are actually in this to make a good program and not just ship out a hyped piece of software. I'll give it another shot for sure
February 12 2007 at 12:46 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI don't understand the hype around Disco. Perhaps, people like paying $15 so they can see simulated smoke.
But I like the great FREE alternatives like LiquidCd and SimplyBurns. I prefer SimplyBurns since it is Free Open Source Software. Check it out at simplyburns.berlios.de/.

ryan, if you think the statement "Hmmm, not sure that's totally accurate..." is hating, then you've either had a very sheltered life, or need to get out more. Or both.
February 12 2007 at 12:08 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAs a happy customer, I can gladly say Disco is just as full-featured as they come. The devs simply went with a more 'only if you need it' philosophy with the UI, so you don't see all the buttons and doo-dads right up front when you open the app. Not only is it powerful and full-featured, but it's pretty innovative too, and no: I'm not exactly talking about the smoke. The disc spanning feature is something Toast couldn't do for a while if I remember correctly, and I think Disco might've been the first on the block with their Discography feature, which keeps a catalog of every file and disc you burn for archiving and searching.
Disco is a stellar burning app that easily worth the introductory $15 it's at right now, and even the $25 regular price.
I can't wait until someone on TUAW posts to tell us about Disco 1.0.1...!
oh joy
haha yeah it was pretty crappy as I remember people saying
