iSight prices on eBay skyrocket - will there be an encore?
Apple's stand-alone FireWire iSight may have recently gone end-of-life, but people's interest in the devices is still going strong, so sayeth eBay. While the iSight's retail price was $129, I'm seeing actual bids ranging from $152 all the way up to $280 as of this writing, with Buy It Now sellers bringing on the greed with prices in the range of $289 up through $500+. Even more astonishing are the completed listings - items that have actually sold (barring any fraudulent activity, of course) - which top out at $610 for a new, in-box iSight. As before, we're still just as curious as you are as to whether there will be a stand-alone iSight 2.0. With most of Apple's lineup now sporting built-in iSights, and rumors of the Cinema Display line not being far behind, it's questionable as to whether we should hold our breath.
Thanks Austin!

hot damn, I should sell mine and buy whatever they're gonna start selling afterwards.
Nah, I'm lazy.... and it's too risky anyway. They'll probably just start including it on cinema displays.

I sold my brother's used iSight last week. He got a MacBook and offered to give me his as a gift. I told him we should check eBay to se what they're selling for before I keep it. I saw them going for $150 (more than he paid for it new) and sold it for him. It sold for $250!!!

I don't see why they would discontinue a line of cameras that could be used regardless of system configuration. It's a beautiful design and commands a premium price. Seems like a reasonable candidate for continued support from Apple. not everyone has a MacBook or the ability to buy a cinema display.

I had been planning on selling mine, and put it on ebay on a whim. I got $225, it had everything included, but no original packaging. I bought it used a year ago for $100.

It was discontinued because it was illegal to sell it in Europe & elsewhere due to environmental regulations. Bad old solder in that there iSight.

iPod Minis are still fetching quite a premium as well. I agree - a good design is a good design.

I got $260 about a month ago for mine, no box. I did have that griffin sight light, isight pouch/case and 6 foot firewire cable. I only had the magnetic mount and powerbok mount. I was going to wait til the price got higher but I just wanted to rid it from my desk clutter.

I was at the Apple Store one day in early December and almost bought an iSIght on a whim, but ultimately decided not to (the shelves were fully stocked with them). I looked on eBay and the savings were marginal on used units, so I just brushed off the thought. A week later, my fancy for the webcam came back and I went back to grab one. Not only was every Apple Store in Houston wiped out of iSights, but it was the same online as well. Sure enough, I looked on eBay and prices were easily twice retail. Lesson learned? Impulse shopping, not always a bad thing.
