iChat 4.0 Voicemail

A trusted source has provided TUAW with a screen-capture of an iChat 4.0 preference pane which hints at an as-yet-unannounced new feature– voicemail. Such a feature would round out the programs VoIP offerings and create a more complete communication experience for users.
Now if only iChat could integrate with Skype and SIP, I wouldn't need a phone at all!
Update: Can it be exclusive if Mac Rumors covered it in Dec? Ah well, here's hope we both don't get matching nastygrams from Apple legal (hey, we love your work!).

That's neat and all, but I'm not sure I want to go to TUAW to see such bait for Apple Legal... you guys be careful and walk the clean line. Let the rumor sites take the hits for stuff like this.
This is just one man's opinion; I could be wrong...

Surely this has to be a sign of .mac syncing of voicemail between iPhone and iChat. That would be awesome.

this is old news... its been posted already by the big rumor sites, and was talked about in the WWDC 2006. Aside from that, what st3phen said is so true... specially posting images and such... c'mon people don't spoil the surprise. there is a reason they are keeping it secret...

Didn't this come out around WWDC 2006?

I would rather have Gmail and Google Talk integration of the VoIP/voicemail features!

Just wanted to add that skype has an answer phone so I do not understand the skype comment at all.
Personaly this sounds like a waste of time feature on it is own. Who seriously gets that many voice chats that they need an answerphone?

Is it me or is the font about the copyright and running man logo a bit stretched than it should be? Is it even in the right font - looks like Myriad instead of Lucida Grande like how it is in the current iChat.

Yes, it's so a TUAW exclusive, Mac rumors spoke about that just two months ago ....

The news isn't really a stretch; AIM added this functionality a while ago, and iChat uses much of their 'plumbing':
"Call me anytime... on my new AIM voice mail number!" (Thursday, December 21, 2006)

Are you sure it's real?
In the legal stuff on the About iChat window it says 2002-2006 Apple Computers Inc. and iChat 4 will be out in 2007 from Apple Inc.

hopefully Voip comes too, as should MSN and other messenger be integrated.... Adium shows that it's possible, but i'd rather see a really integrated cross messenger platform...

Now if iChat could go multi-protocol and support MSN and Yahoo. OR if iChat like...bought out the Adium project and somehow brought in videochatting to MSN. The Mac is in desperate need of a decent full featured MSN client.

We had this covered in December at MacRumors, as others have mentioned. Not sure why TUAW is claiming an exclusive on this.

I'd like to use iChat for the video functionality, but with a multitude of IM accounts (ICQ, AIM, GChat, and yes...MSN) I find that iChat is simply clunky compared to Adium.
Unfortunately Adium is sadly lacking in the video department.
No happy medium, it seems.
