iPod mini hacked from microdrive to flash
GeekTechnique.org posted this rather remarkable how-to project for transforming an otherwise ordinary iPod mini into a flash-based iPod. The post discusses how the battery and the internal microdrive are the two most likely points of failure for the mini. Batteries are reasonably easy to replace, the microdrive less so. They decided to replace it with solid state flash memory instead. There's a full step-by-step photo diary provided by the authors so you can follow along if the mood takes you. Awesome stuff.

I'd be really interested to see if this works just as well with a larger card (I'm not quite willing to splash out on a 16GB on the offchance it will!, since my mini is still going strong).
