Parallels Desktop Finally Ships

We've been noting the steady stream of Release Candidates coming out of Parallels, but today finally saw the actual release of latest version of the leading (for now) virtualization solution for the Mac. So now those hardy (or prudent) souls out there who actually wait for a shipping product can jump on this revolutionary piece of software. At this point, there's hardly anything new to say, but the many official improvements since the last release include support for: running a Boot Camp partition as a virtual machine, USB 2.0, built-in iSights, true drag and drop between OSes, Leopard and Vista and more.

The release is free for registered users. Parallels Desktop sells for $79.99 and of course you'll need a Windows license if you want to install that. A demo is available. Unfortunately, the Parallel's site is getting hammered right now, so you may have to wait a little while to grab your copy.

Update: clarified what was released.

Watch out if youre running a store bought copy as at present the keys that come with them are not working on the downloaded version.

I thought I'd reinstall Windows XP. No such luck; it hangs when trying to install devices (Express Installation). Not happy with such a buggy final build.

Yeah, my download keeps crashing out for me... It's supposed to be 58MB, but hasn't broken 26MB on a "completed" download yet, after the last four attempts...

Yes, Parallels has been working on 3D acceleration, they stated so at macworld. Whether or not we'll see it before VMWare is yet to be known.

The only thing I want it for is Vista virutalization. But so far, it has been extremely useful in my switch to the mac world.

The new boot from bootcamp is intriguing, I'm not sure I'll bite until Leopard ships though, just in case I blow my HDD up repartitioning. I haven't had a need to (altho, I've had the urge to play counterstrike)

Oh my golly gosh it's fast! The beta's were always pretty peppy but this final build is amazing. Everything seems to take a most half the time. It normally takes my c2duo macbook pro about 30 seconds to fully restore a suspended XP session. It now takes less than 3 seconds. Really.

Does this beta include Parallels answer to your reported VMWare Fusion support for 3D Hardware Acceleration? (http://www.tuaw.com/2007/02/10/found-footage-vmware-fusion-to-bring-3d-hardware-acceleration/)

I won't be buying either until I am sure they can run this, as to be honest, being able to run my Windows XP games that have no hope of being ported, is my reason for Windows virtualization on my iMac.
