Missing Sync for BlackBerry Preview Released
Back in January we mentioned the forthcoming release of Missing Sync for BlackBerry from Mark/Space scheduled for a nebulous "Q1 2007." Yesterday Mark/Space hit the mark, making a "Preview" edition available for download. Like the other "Missing Sync" products, the BlackBerry edition will sync your contacts, iCal calendar entries, notes, iPhoto pictures, iTunes tracks and more (though some of these require more advanced devices like the BlackBerry Pearl). The site lists compatiblity with several different series of BlackBerry devices running version 4.0 and later of the BlackBerry OS. Be sure to check out the known issues page before you download.Mark/Space does not appear to have announced final pricing, but they do note that they will offer upgrade pricing for registered users of Missing Sync for Palm and Windows Mobile. The preview is available for download now (scroll all the way to the bottom of the page).

Thanks for mentioning the public preview of The Missing Sync for BlackBerry! When the finished product ships at the end of the quarter, it will cost $39.95 (for electronic download). Owners of our Palm OS or Windows Mobile editions will be eligible for a 50%-off "crossgrade" price.
Cheers,

I've run a first set of syncs and noticed some small glitches. Be sure that you have selected a default calendar from the MS iCal plugin. (Double-click and choose, or Click and hit 'Settings' button.) Also suggest that you sync with the log window open.
I may have seen some duplication of records ... or at least some oddness in the first few syncs. I chose the option to have MS overwrite my handheld, as I wanted to start from a clean state. And then I made a minor change on the desktop and performed a second sync to observe any potential changes.

What will Missing Sync offer for BB users for $40 that can't be had with PocketMac for BB for free?
Not being combative ... just curious.

"What will Missing Sync offer for BB users for $40 that can't be had with PocketMac for BB for free?"
For starters, how about an app that actually works? Pocketmac for BB is awful. It hangs, quits unexpectedly, and half the time it doesn't recognize that my BB is plugged in.
Missing Sync for BB has a few bugs too, but it's still only in the preview stage. The Notes syncronization feature is nice. iPhoto and iTunes integration (if you happen to have an 8100 Pearl) is a nice bonus too. Assuming they get the kinks worked out, I'll have no problem spending $40 for a decent piece of software.

Missing Sync has iTunes and iPhoto syncing. The iPhoto syncing sounds super cool. Not to mention that a 1.0 release of Missing Sync may not have the problems that PocketMac apparently has.
A friend has a Blackberry Pearl, and I think it's awesome, but I'll wait until Missing Sync comes out of beta to get one.
Does anyone have experience with the Mark/Space Notebook application that comes with it? Is it Applescript-able?

I use PocketMac for my Blackberry and Missing Sync (fully registered) for my Q, and PocketMac is absolutely a better piece of software. If Missing Sync for the BB is anything like Missing Sync for the Q, it's buggy, hangs intermittently, has flaky bluetooth sync support, and is slow. PocketMac has never given me any problems, and I recommend staying away from Mark/Space's products in the future. Just my experience. iPhoto/iTunes syncing for the Pearl is a joke anyway - how much of your multi-gig library are you actually going to put on your handheld device?

I would also be weary of Mark/Space's products. I purchased Missing Sync for Windows Mobile 5 and had no end of problems with it. I still have duplications which it caused in my Calendars!

Thanks for the feedback. I have found PocketMac to be idiosyncratic, but functional -- not my favorite implementation, but not a disaster. The iPhoto feature will make it worth it once I get a next BB.
Of course, if I can convince the company to make my next BB an iPhone ... :)
