Expect lots of Apple/Google collaboration

I've got to say I loooove Google. My Gmail account is great, as is Google Reader, Picasa* and my Picasa web albums, Gcal and so on.

To those who have complained that Google ignores Mac users, we say that's about to change. Google chief executive Eric Schmidt stated on Monday that the two companies will be "..."doing more and more things together. We have similar goals, similar competitors."

So the Google maps features of the iPhone are only the beginning? Sweet.

*Ok, so technically Picasa is running on my Linux box. Do I lose Mac cred?

I think it's great that Apple and Google are getting closer with more collaboration, but when will safari be able to access google docs & spreadsheets?

I think it's rather sad that a simple compatibility issue like this hasn't been attended to.

I don't remember ever having trouble with gmail when I use Safari.

When iphoto 07 comes out it should be better then picasa anyway.

It will probably be better than Picasa 2.0, but who's to say that Picasa 3.0 isn't coming out soon too?

I'd love to see Google creating Apps for Mac, but I hope they do it aside from Apple collaboration. Picasa is so much better than iPhoto. .Mac is poo. iChat isn't great (I use Adium). I use Firefox instead of Safari. It seems like I've replaced everything in Apple with third party apps. On a daily basis the only Apple app I use is... well, nothing. I don't use any Apple made apps on a daily basis at all. I've even replaced the Finder and Spotlight with Quicksilver.

So bring it on Google! You can only make Mac life better!

Hopefully they'll incorporate Google Talk's audio chat (libjingle) in iChat.

@15 : you can do multiple services with the current iChat too, you'll just have multiple buddy lists open, instead of one that's combined together.

The Leopard preview pages indicate that the new iChat will allow you to login in to multiple services. (Right now you can only do one at a time.) Since iChat can already talk to gTalk, it'd be interesting to see if Apple provides gTalk as one of the options in the account setup wizard for the new iChat.

With .Mac flakiness of late, I have discovered gMail and its quite alluring compared to .Mac. They cover a lot of the same space -- gMail (no SPAM!), picassa web albums (with iPhoto plugin), bookmark syncing. .Mac still provides iDisk and general syncing, but Google is catching up fast. Google Docs and Spreadsheets is pretty nice too, but I have to use firefox instead of Safari. Turns out, its not so bad.

More collaboration from Google and Apple has me salivating.

How about Apple moves .Mac to use Google's service. I am .Mac user before. When i find Google provides most of the service for free, i don't renew anymore.

A while back I emailed VP Vint Cerf at Google (I know him since he lectured to my college class I taught) and he has said that Google has had a group working on a Picassa version for the Mac.

gTalk works on iChat using Jabber:

No need for AIM.

Well I've got Gtalk set up via iChat right now (I had to get an AIM account so that I could use iChat to use Gtalk.... go figure)

Thats a lot of hassle which having a stand alone Gtalk client could save!
