Games coming to Apple TV?
AppleInsider is pointing out some interesting discoveries regarding iTunes 7.1 and the Apple TV. While poking around, they've uncovered some telltale text strings within the application, including, "Are you sure you want to sync games? All existing games on the Apple TV" and "Some of the games in your iTunes library were not copied to the Apple TV."The Mac Dev Center takes things a step further with a complete list of Apple TV text strings, including the "game" mentions.
Perhaps it's just synchronization, but why would you send games to the Apple TV if you couldn't play them - maybe with the remote as a controller? Or maybe there will even be - gasp - Apple TV-specific games?!?
Let the speculation begin.

Well, being on the sceptic side, my theory is that iPod games could be backed up on the AppleTV hard-drive... I mean, even if the games were playable on the TV, you'd need an "Apple Gaming Remote".... not bad, I think.

March 06 2007 at 5:46 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIf I recall correctly, some text strings pertaining to a phone were found in iTunes 6. It was quite some time before the iPhone came along (it's still not here), so it could be some time before we see AppleTV games.
It's a great way to fuel speculation.
In any event, Apple would be daft *not* to make games available for AppleTV. Quite how this would be implemented I don't know. As far as we know, the AppleTV isn't powerful enough to rival the current crop of consoles out there. So they would likely be more basic titles, similar to what's on the iPod, but 'upscaled' somehow for the tv.
It would be cool if you could play a game on the TV, then carry on from where you left off on your iPod later....
It explicitly states on the Apple TV webpage that it does not and will not play iPod Games. Unless Apple plans on making Xbox games available in a brilliant marketing scheme to steal customers from Microsoft, it is assured that these are made for Apple TV. Unless, of course, Apple is just playing a big trick on the blogosphere.
