Go RED for less

If you've been wanting to grab one of those Product RED iPod nanos, this is a good time. Apple has a quantity of refurbished 4GB models available for $169US each (typically they're $199US). Since Apple's donation to the Product RED fund is a flat fee on these nanos ($10) and not based on their retail price, you can be assured that your purchase will result in the same donation as a full-priced model. Everybody wins!

Thanks, Greenline!

Normally the Apple refurbished products are those that either failed during burning testing or some other quality control test. They are then reworked and certified as refurbished.

Been thinking of getting another Nano in the coming weeks anyway so this post comes at just the right time!

Good news: The "Red" Campaign has raised $18 million so far.

Bad news: They've spent $100 million to advertise it.

I'm not so sure that these have been sold twice. The refurbs seem to show up too soon after product releases to all be returns. Maybe QC units from the manufacturing process? Repairs from manufacturing? I dunno.

But it sure says on the linked site that $10 will be donated.

yeah, I doubt Apple would donate another $10 for selling a player that was already sold once before.

Yeah, I would have thought the contribution would only be for when it was sold the first time. The product page does mention the donation, but that could just be a cut and paste job.

Hmmm.. do you think Apple really contributes twice (once for the original purchase and then again for the refurb purchase)?
