Apple releases Airport Extreme Update 2007-002
Apple has just released a new security update for Airport Extreme. This update addresses the security concerns regarding system crashes caused by "attackers on the wirless network" (You can read more about the security issues here). The update also improves MacBook and MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo compatibility for use with some WEP Open System third-party access points.
Thanks everyone who sent this in.

But remember, guys and gals -- our Macs are totally secure, not like the Swiss-cheese security of those Windows machines!

Warning - I just installed this update on my MBP, and now I can't connect to my belkin wireless router at all. Anybody know how to uninstall? I guess I'm headed to the Apple forums to see if anyone else is having this problem....

Looks like I'm not the only one. Big thread on apple's site about it: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=830859&tstart=0

I just installed this on my "upgraded" MacBook CoreDuo with the MacPro "n" card. It did not take away this new functionality and everything is running smoothly for those worried about installing this patch.

Maan, I'm not installing this untill it's confirmed not to cause issues. It's so harrasing, each time there's a Airport security update I've problems connecting to my linksys router. Sometimes it feels like a ploy from apple forcing me to purchase their Aiport Express.
Anyways, my 2 cents.
Keep smiling :-)

To number 5, can you verify that you are infact using an N card? I am in the same position as you (N card in a core duo macbook).

This update fixed my iMac 24" wireless. Before when connecting to Linksys or Buffalo 802.11g access point the speed was slow (350 kB/s) and it made the whole wireless network slow. Now it works perfectly, 3,5 MB/s and no problems. Signal indicator also now shows full signal, before only 3 bars. At least for iMac 24" C2D my experience was good.

At last! I've been waiting for a software update to patch the Airport n-card issues in the latest machines. All my C2D machines seem to be working fine with the new AEBS-n router! Thanks Apple! :)

Ryan,
I had just installed the new "n" card Wednesday evening and my MacBook is now a fully functioning "n" machine. In addition to checking that the firmware version was correct, Network Utility showed the expected a/b/g/n. That did NOT change after using this update patch.

I uodated yesterday, and when it rebooted, it connected automatically to my network. It never did that before on startup. Plus, it reconnects faster when I open the Macbook up again.

After installing the previous update my MacBook Pro Core Duo would disconnect from the network after about 20 minutes. I’d have to put it to sleep and wake it before it would connect again.
So far this seems to have fixed the problem! (fingers crossed…)

I just updated my Core Duo (not C2D) MacBook Pro and have to report that 2007-002 works great! No more connectivity issues, at least none yet. Maybe something to "wait and see" about, but I couldn't take my problems with 001 any longer and didn't want to hack in the rollback that some claim to have returned to WiFi normality with. No help from a PRAM reset that others have reported either.
Note that everything below applies only to 2007-001 -- NOT 2007-002:
Ever since update 2007-001, I had *huge* issues with my Pre-N Belkin wireless router. It didn't always have a problem, but when it did, boy was it a bear and a a half! I live in a townhouse neighborhood, so I usually see upwards of a half dozen access points. At worst, 001 saw *NO* access points out there, including my own -- usually it saw a handful of AP's, then quickly degraded to none.
Sometimes, it wouldn't automatically connect, even though it was, at times, the only entry in my preferred networks list. Also aggravating, connectivity would drop out for no reason, Airport status icon blinking black and grey, and required either turning Airport off and on one or more times in software, putting it to sleep and waking, or even a full reboot or power cycle. No rhyme or reason and no single solution ever worked every time and was sometimes required a combination of all four.
I had *never* had a problem pre-001.

In response to Daniel's post (march 8) I also can't connect to my D-Link router after the update. I'm using WPA passcode and have it set to 802.11g Only Mode. Wish I could uninstal the update; this is really irritating!

I'm using a MacBook with a D-Link 624 and the WPA capability is gone.
Otherwise I can sign on using WEP or Default.
