Magsafe adapters with stuck pins

Has your magsafe adapter stopped working properly? One of the connector pins might be stuck. Apple has published[1] a support article on troubleshooting stuck pins. If you remove your adapter and see one or more of the pins stuck down (the two outer pins in this picture are affected), Apple suggests you try unplugging and replugging the adapter to allow the pins to reset themselves. If that doesn't work, you can use your finger or a pencil eraser to nudge the pin back into position. If all else fails? Visit your local Apple service provider.

I'm pretty clean with my notebook, but my pins got stuck too. Apple did replace the power unit. I think the percieved "dirtiness" is partly due to the surface texture interacting with the light. When you magnify it like that, even pits invisible to the human eye might pop out.

Given that it was a new style connector, I'm somewhat surprised that Apple didn't make that end of the cable detachable. They would only have to replace the cable, not the entire power brick.

try it with your tongue, worked better for me, but don't forget to plug the adapter into the wall, otherwise it might not work

I had the same thing happen with my MBP purchased last April. It happened in less than a month. Really annoying, but Apple overnighted a replacement after calling them. It was fast service, but an annoying little problem. Since then, almost a year now of daily use, and no other problems with anything else.

I had something close to this issue.. One of the pins in my connector just wouldn't stay put. More or less, the spring was broken, and it would just flop around.. Once i did get the connection, the slightest bump would disconnect it again.. What a pain.. Luckily I was still under warrenty, and got a new one from Apple.

Well this is great. My MacBook's battery is down to 1500 mwh remaining capacity because of this issue. And I can't take it in to Apple service because being in Australia means having to give up my MacBook for two weeks while they get around to looking at my issue.

this happened to me a few months back, in what seems to be the only good encounter with applecare/mac geniuses, they gave me a new one in about 15 min.
