Apple TV about to ship
Check your credit cards. Looks like Apple is finally charging those cards for Apple TV. With the order pages stating that "APPLE TV-USA Ships by: Mar 20 Delivers by: Mar 26", it seems as if Apple TV is finally getting ready to launch. I called around a few Apple Stores and they denied all knowledge about when store displays would go live. Just "check in again at the end of the month."Update: Several readers report that the charges may only be pre-authorization checks.

FWIW, while mine had been charged a few days ago, as of today, the pending charge has been dropped. Looks like Apple was just preauthorizing cards to ensure that they were "working" and the real charges will probably appear on Tuesday when they really start shipping.

actually, they pre-authorized cards (mine was one of them) days ago so that as soon as the apple tvs are ready they can ship them out. my pre-authorization has actually disappeared. we may see some shipments starting on monday at the earliest is the word i'm getting. who knows though.

Seeing as how the Apple TV hasn't even received its FCC approval yet, I doubt it's shipping in the near future:
Go here:
https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/tcb/index.html
Do a generic report search, grantee code "BCG"
date range: this year
The only FCC approval Apple has received this year is for the new Airport Extreme.

no 480i support = no sales of any significance. End of run in the near future for Apple TV.

chances are, if you are going to be paying 300 dollars for a device for your TV, your not going to be hooking it up to a 99 dollar TV from walmart.
And if that happens to be the case, I'm sure there's some sort of downconverter that will downconvert your 480p to 480i to watch on a standard television.
But really, why would you be interested in buying this 300 dollar device if your tv did not support component. I read somewhere that leopard is supposed to support some kinda wireless display option, and maybe via appleTV you could run your display on your television which would be really cool for games.
if this is the case, again it would look very bad on a 480i display, as progressive is needed.

I have a $299 CRT SDTV that supports 480p over component. You don't need much to meet the minimum spec.
