Who is ready for more Apple TV news? I am, I am! Apple has posted both the User Guide and the Safety Information for the Apple TV. in PDF form. This is a great way to check out the Apple TV without having to plunk down your cold hard cash. To the right you see everything that your $300 gets you:- The Apple TV
- An AC power cord (which might look different than the one pictured)
- An Apple Remote
Paging though the user guide makes it crystal clear that Apple is positioning Apple TV as an iTunes Store add-on. Very clever, if you ask me.

"USB port
For service and diagnostics."
This can't possibly be just for service and diagnostics... Can it?

Scott,
I think people should complain about not getting a cable to hook up to their tv. It is like the crap that printer manufacturers do by not including a printer cable, or the hundreds of electronics that we buy which require batteries that we must go out and purchase separately. Apple markets themselves as great design that just works right out of the box. This lack of attention to detail is something I would expect from Dell, not Apple.

But then what type of cable would they give you? A component, a scart etc etc? They couldn't include a cable for every type, so they don't include one at all.

I highly doubt the USB is for diagnostics, they would've used USB type B connector if it was an "output" from the device. There are no type A to A USB cables. I expect this to become something like Apple's Extreme access point disk attachment for making the storage bigger on the unit or maybe attach some other devices like iPod dock or something.

@ossiejnr: considering the Apple Tv doesn't have a port for scart or "etc, etc" that wouldn't make a lot of sense now would it. Since the only two types of cables you can use are component or HDMI then one of those two would be the most obvious choice (a $5 component cable being the most logical since most modern tv's have at least that capability.)The point is, if Apple is going to be the "step above" that we all want it to continue to be then not including a (probably white) cable in the box is unacceptable. BTW, I am not an Apple basher. I have two Apple laptops and a mini. I would have been all over this AppleTV if I wasn't already accomplishing the same thing and more with my current mini.

Tommy, if you page through the manual almost every other word is 'iTunes.' They clearly want people to buy more stuff from the iTunes Store (which makes sense).
As for the cables, I'm not sure what I think about that. Apple would need to include a few cables to cover all the different kinds of TVs, and that would be a little wasteful.

To tell you the truth, I personally think this IS attention to detail. This device just has too many different kinds of ports, so why include a cable when the user might just use a different cable? Apple knows that by including a cable, they might be including something useless. However, printers are different because they only use one kind of cable (USB), so manufacturers should include that kind of thing.
